Indeed, price is the mechanism for "rationing" scare commodities in this world, including lawyers. However, even top law firms do plenty of pro bono work so p.b. lawyers are not necessily poor lawyers or even likely to be such.

Yes, but I'm pretty certain one of Terri's problems is that her lawyers are outclassed by the Schiavo Triumvirate. The design of the court system is such that it's very difficult to get a "finding of fact" by a trial court overturned, even if it's contradicted by 99.44% of the evidence. I also suspect that Terri's lawyers for far too long believed Judge Greer to be acting in good faith.
My one consolation as I look at the diminishing likelihood of a rescue, is that the Schiavo Triumvirate aren't going to escape judgement forever. Someone is watching them who cannot be fooled, hoodwinked, or manipulated.
