Removal of brain-damaged woman's feeding tube to proceed MITCH STACY Associated Press

DOVER, Fla. - Gov. Jeb Bush said Wednesday he has ordered his legal team to try to find a way to intervene in the case of severely disabled woman who is scheduled to have the feeding tube keeping her alive removed.

Bush's comments came after a 20-minute meeting with the family of Terri Schiavo, who faces a 2 p.m. Wednesday deadline in the removal of the tube. Her husband, Michael Schiavo, has been granted permission to remove the tube in a six-year legal battle against her parents, Bob and Mary Schindler.

Bush said his attorneys are looking for legal alternatives to somehow block the removal of the tube, but did not know yet what they might be.

"We are going to seek whatever legal alternatives are available and seek the best minds to find another avenue to submit to the courts to see if there can be a change in this ruling," Bush said at an appearance in Dover dedicating new housing for migrant workers.

"I am not a doctor, I am not a lawyer, But I know that if a person can be able to sustain life without life support, that should be tried," the governor said, adding the "ultimate decision of this is in the courts."

Bob Schindler Jr., Terri Schiavo's brother, said the family was heartened by the governor's last-minute effort. The Schindlers have pleaded with Bush - who in previous legal findings have supported their efforts to obtain therapy for their daughter - to intervene.

"The family has not given up hope on Terri," Bob Schindler Jr. said following the meeting with Bush. "We have spoken to the governor, and he hasn't given up hope either."

Terri Schiavo, 39, is expected to die within two weeks after the tube's removal. She's been in a vegetative state since suffering a heart attack in 1990. Her parents believe she is capable of learning how to eat and drink on her own.

A state appeals court in Lakeland rejected motions by an attorney for the Schindlers and their legal remedies have been exhausted, their lawyer said Tuesday.

Michael Schiavo says he is carrying out his wife's wishes that she not be kept alive artificially. The parents say their daughter has shown signs of trying to communicate and could be rehabilitated.

"In our eyes, it's murder," Bob Schindler said Wednesday on CBS' "Early Show."

George Felos, attorney for Michael Schiavo, said that the Schindlers were "still in denial" over Terri Schiavo's wishes not to be kept alive.

Doctors have testified that the noises and facial expressions Terri Schiavo makes are reflexes and do not indicate that she has enough mental capabilities to communicate with others.

"And the Bible tells us plainly: "There are none righteous, no not one." (!) But when we surrender our lives to Christ -- ah, friend, it's a new day. "Though my sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow."

We're made righteous by the blood of Jesus. "Nothing in my hands I bring, simply to the cross I cling."

And then we work, ACT, live for Christ...For folks like Terri, who's situation has brought us here together...to pray/discuss. You know what: It's probably going to be a whole lot worse. "But if GOD is for us, who can be against us?" (!)

Jesus said "Greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for his friend"

Who among us is willing to stand shoulder to shoulder to create a human ring around this house of death... willing to take a bullet to prevent these Babylonian dogs from getting their vile hands on this helpless woman. Non of us! As the pro-detah chant of mockery goes: "Pray you'll need it, your cause has been defeated".

Christianity was never meant to be passive. If we see a wrong we are obliged to act, not just pray.

I agree with you. This is NOT God's will. God has nothing to do with what evil man is plotting here. God acts through his people, who must take the responsibility to do what is right. It will not be the will of God if (when) Terri is killed.

Father, Almighty God,

We come to you at this critical time to intercede on behalf of Terri, an innocent person who is unable to speak for herself. We ask you now to intervene on her behalf and stop the evil schemes of the devil to end her life. I ask specifically that you open the eyes of those searching for a way out for her and give them wisdom, knowledge and courage to stand firm.

Father you have reminded me that this battle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of the dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. I ask now that you bind up the forces of evil and bring forth your glory. I thank you that you hear us and you answer us when we call on you.

Send your angels to protect Terri right now. We thank you and praise you In Jesus Name, Amen.

****

I AGREE!

I recommend that we all pray the following Psalms. I substitute she/Terri for the author.
Psalm 3; 5; 6; 7;10; 11; 12; 17;30; 31; 35; 34. Some of these Psalms truly describe her exact situation.

my understanding is that it was just " talking" with her in casual conversation ,that her no good husband says he is basing this on. ANother report in a SWORN deposition is that his ex girlfriend says he admitted to her that Terri never said anything to him either way. GO FIGURE.
GO BUSH GO....intervene!!!!

A friend expressed his thoughts that the family has no standing in this regard. He based his opinion on the fact she left her parents and was cleaved to him - so he has the right to decide regarding her health - regardless of his lack of faithfullness ... etc. I very much disagree but am looking for a Biblical refrence that would refute this idea. I made the comment that no guard would stop me from seeing my child, having access to her ... etc. Please no anti Judaic/Christian screeds. I'm looking strictly for a Biblical response.

Do you normally excuse murder as "God's will"? I don't see God at work here at all, I see some cruel and evil people carrying out their plan.

Of course, it is cruel and evil what is happening. We can't explain the lack of answered prayers as not being "righteous enough" though. Of course, the fight is NOT over. But if Terri does lose her life in this, instead of being angry and bitter, which accomplishes nothing, maybe the whole situation will show us just how much harder we need to fight.

The other night on c2cAM, Noury said he would broadcast the name of the person who removed the g-tube. we must hold him to this promise. Not sure what the email is but if you care you'll look it up, as will I.

After all, if this is such a wonderful thing these fiends are doing, we should know who they are so we may praise their compassion.

I find it hard to believe that a woman in her early 20's would even think of discussing such a thing... when I was in my 20's, that was the LAST thing on MY mind! He's a liar, and even worse, a potential murderer! I don't believe a thing he says!

Just reported on MSNBC, but left out pertinent details, wish the Dad had gotten in a MAIN point, such as the fact she had no therapy, banned visits by hubby, etc, even a few "quick" comments, maybe sheep would take notice.

I think that if that were my daughter and I was convinced that she should stay alive, that I would take steps to remove the husband from the scene. He has absolutely no moral credibility. But let us hope that Bush can find a way.
