There are wide variations from person to person in the effects of a given drug on someone.

The more prone to addiction someone is genetically, the greater the "high" they'll get from the early use of a given drug.

Maybe you should try telling that to all the oxycontin addicts that go around stealing the drug so that they can crush it up and snort it or shoot it to get an immediate HIGH from the full 12 hour dose.
(Oxycontin's claim to fame is the long and slow time release versions that available for those who are unaware).

Some people like that "lethargic" feeling and lack of self awarness that comes from opium derivatives.

Have you never noticed all the old paintings of people laying around smoking opium or of heroin junkies nodding off in a needle park?

How wrong you are. I live in a state that has a very high Oxycotin abuse problem. To achieve a high all you have to do is crush it up and snort it, or remove the time release coating. Both ways are reputed to give an enormous rush.

Oh yes there is!!! It's not known as "Hillbilly Heroin" because it only has theraputic value. I've tried it (when I had lower back pain). It has the effect of making the chair you are sitting in REALLY comfortable!

This is absolutely false. The high from Oxycontin is supposedly almost exactly like that from heroin. Oxycontin is a time release drug that junkies crunch up, cook up in a spoon while they mix with water or whatever they use, and then shoot up into their veins. Breaking it up like that takes out the "time release" factor and gives them the whole effect at once.

As an attorney, I have represented Oxycontin/heroin addicts and they tell me that the drugs are basically interchangeable but they prefer the Oxy because it's cleaner which makes it easier to use the right dose and less likely to be toxic. It is not uncommon for these guys to spend $80 a day or so on their Oxy habits.
