Bump! I was kind of taken by Arnold's standing up for his beliefs when no one else was watching. That to me tells us more about our new Governor to be than all of his public campaign appearances. See, Arnold could have taken the politically correct easy way out that was offered him. He didn't. And I have to agree in hindsight signing up Warren Buffett was a masterstroke; the guy may not know anything about taxes or spending or the politics of it but he knows how you can restructure debt. Arnold needs to find out how it can be done without increasing taxes. In one sense he's like Ronald Reagan, just when you think you know him, you've underestimated the fellow. The Democrats think he's dumb and that could be to his advantage.

After hearing and seeing a number of Arnold's interviews and appearances, I got the sense that the real Arnold is almost the same as the character he plays in Twins--a guy with almost corny old-fashioned values, commitment to family, country and God. One thing I most admire in him is his willingness to answer controversial questions simply, with no apologies or embellishment. In this respect, he is the complete opposite of most politicians.

Not many people know that former U.S. Treasury Secretary George Shultz has a tiger tatooted on his buttock.

he wanted to be underestimated. And while everybody was sort of laughing at him, he just blew right by them and walked off with all the prizes. I think Arnold might do the same.Same thing could be said of President Bush. Since one of the main Dem talking points is always to call Republicans morons, lacking the lofty intellectual superiority of liberal elites, it is easy to outperform their warped caricatures.

Thanks for the ping.
It is indeed a great article.
Considering who George Shultz is, his opinion should carry some weight with conservatives who are interested in seeing CA turned around.
Too bad they didn't write this article before the election, I think it would have meant a few additional percentage points for Arnold.
This article shows, what some of us were starting to conclude, is that there is a lot more to Arnold, than people think, and he is being "misunderestimated".
I think he will do wonders for CA, because he is not afraid to make the tough choices, and has no ax to grind.
Go Arnold!
To: FairOpinion
Indeed.
You know what's sticking with me now, a week later?
What a remarkably CLEAN and ISSUES-FOCUSED campaign Schwarzenegger ran. I don't know if I can even remember such. He said nothing negative about McClintock, ever (unlike McC); and said little about Davis beyond that he'd mismanaged and needed to go.
I really think it was remarkable in that regard. He was positive, focused, disciplined, never thrown off his stride -- media weasels to the contrary notwithstanding.

``Reagan didn't mind. I don't think Arnold does either. Reagan even cultivated that image -- he wanted to be underestimated. And while everybody was sort of laughing at him, he just blew right by them and walked off with all the prizes. I think Arnold might do the same.'' That's what I've been saying all along, Arnold has been underestimated his entire career and has used it as an advantage...
BTW, great article, thanks for the ping.
Cheers, CC :)

"You honestly, for a split second, think you" and your ilk offering nothing but restating any direct question in a sophist, rehortical manner in the desperate attempt to avoid the
real issues CA faced both before and after the election is supposed to make them go away?
Who's acting like the baby? You guys were, and you still are.
That's why you have to argue like liberals-you can't talk about issues.
Where are those spending cuts from your allegedly fiscal "conservative"? Sure he didn't want to talk about them during the campaign, but now that isn't a problem, yet now he's still not being specific. The only thing he is making noises about is whining for a Federal bailout. I hope that doesn't happen, CA needs real cuts in the budget, not a bandaid.

looking forward to seeing if Arnold picks a conservative to replace Janice Brown on the CA Supreme Court.
So far, Arnold looks impressive.
