"One of the greatest talkers of our age is getting sober."

I find it odd, truly odd, that Rush, whose voice I've listened to for many, many years never once said anything about back surgery . . . never. I've heard about his ear surgery, but never anything about back surgery. When condemning lefty libs who blame surgery for their current drug addictions, I've never heard Rush talk about "his" back surgery to support his attacks on them. I think we're in the middle of a big con.

And to listen to the big conservative elephant tears over someone who apparently is involved in many felonies over many years is very disheartening. All you have to do is reverse the labels in this case, and you'd think we were ginning pity for Liz Taylor, or Liza Minelli, or any of the other celebrities who've blamed some "surgery" or life setback for their drug woes as they head for detox. Lord A'might, Colonel! What in the world is happening to standards of moral behavior and decency?

Are we telling our kids that it's kinda' ok to commit felony abuse of drugs, have dealings with the underworld of low-lifes who supply illegal drugs, deceive your friends and all those who love you and believe in you, as long you "fess up" and head for detox ONLY after you got caught?

Well, I'm not without sin like you, so I can't cast the first stone...

But I'll agree with you that he deserves our disgust. We should put Rush on a mule, backwards, with a large clown head on him, and send him to the gulag. Because goodness knows showing compassion to someone with problems only encourages them, or people like them.

And "people like them" aren't people like us, right?

I too find that odd. I could have missed dialog on the subject but I've not heard any FReepers say "I remember him talking about his back surgery".

Has anyone heard anything prior to the drug allegations?

The problem is that over time the pills have less and less ability to get rid of the pain, the user only takes the pills to stave off the effects of withdrawal. There's got to be a better way than this. I don't fault Rush, but there is a reason why unprescribed opiates are illegal, they play cruel tricks with the brain. Sure they may work for awhile, but sometimes the cure is worse than the disease.

So since when did treating pain rise to the level of being a lapse of moral behavior or decency?

I would wager the vast majority of the anti-opiate nazis have never been in real pain, or if they were, would take opiates if offered. Pain is a tremendous motivator.

Tell me the truth. Do you believe drug use is wrong? I suspect you believe drug use is OK for people who say it's OK.

Along that line of thinking, do you think a child killer who thinks it's OK to kill children is innocent, while a child killer who thinks it's wrong to kill children is guilty? IF that's a value, they we all need to wallow in the gutter because only by giving up a sense of right and wrong, can we be free from judgment. By this Orwellian logic, good is evil and evil is good. The man who tries to be moral is condemned. The man who is evil is given compassion. Tell me your values and I'll answer your question.
