True story - the Cubs were actually set to be one of the first teams to put lights up, in 1941. But after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, P.K. Wrigley donated the lights he had bought - but not installed - to the War Department. And then apparently never got around to replacing them ;)

Just curious as to just what the War Department would need with ballpark light towers?

Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing the Sox play in Wrigley field if they can somehow take 2 of the next 3 from the Yankees. Game starts in 9 hours...

There is a heavy rainstorm approaching New England. Hopefully the rains will hold off until the game is over (of course it is welcome to come in if the Sox fall behind early).

Good question - I went and looked it up, and apparently the lights ended up being installed in one of the Navy's shipyards, so construction could be carried out round-the-clock.

As Bosox fans may recall, the last time they won a series, in 1918, it was against the Cubs. And now it's finally time for the Cubbies to strike back ;)

Or, I presume, if the Sox are winning, it's welcome to start raining as soon as the game's official - although I suppose the powers-that-be would try like hell to resume play rather than end the game in that case ;)

I'm sure you've already been corrected - I'm getting into this thread a little late... but, Marichal made it into the hall in his third year of eligibility - largely thanks to major campaigning for him by Roseboro (they had become good friends by then.)

His dad is Ramon Garciaparra. His mom wouldn't let his dad name their baby boy after himself - so he did anyway. Sort of...

As long as the Liberal Umpires keep making arbitrary calls the Sox may win the series. Like the ball that didn't hit the pole that was counted as a run and that photo finish last nite that should have been a double play. The score should be Yanks 2 Sox 1 and 1 Tie.

Unfreaking believable!

You may need an eye perscription. The ball clearly hit the foul pole. Wells is gonna get shelled in 1 hour.

It clearly hit the guy's hand. It almost certainly would have hit the pole without interference, but the rule is hit the pole, and it didn't.
