What your post doesn't take into account is the pre-established credibility of both parties.
The situation you describe would never happen... because since you kept people "who they are" in this alternate universe, we ergo know that Clinton wouldn't EVER have said "I don't blame anyone else, I take full responsibility" anyway. He would've said "I didn't swallow the pills." He would've said "It's all a vast right wing conspiracy." He would've said "I never took drugs from that housekeeper."
Clinton didn't take responsibility for anything he did in his 8 years in office or anytime since without loudly denying it at least once first. Rush may not have volunteered any information, but he didn't lie about a thing either, not even in his "deer in the headlights moment" when this story first broke, while the McNabb thing was still going hot.
Clinton STILL never answered rape charges. He's STILL not answered any questions regarding the facts in "Losing Bin Laden" or any of his other failures to stop 9/11. He STILL hasn't answered any questions about his continuous meetings with Enron. He STILL hasn't answered any questions about Chinagate (and burst blood vessels when a reporter dared ask him about it). He STILL hasn't made an accounting for FileGate.
No, unless you're also changing the physical laws of the universe, there's no way Clinton can remain "who he is" and have handled the situation with as much class as Rush did.
"I didn't inhale".... if that doesn't demonstrate that unequivocally to you, nothing will.

Re-read the article but every time you see "Bill Clinton", substitute it with any other prominant liberal. Its still a very good impression.
I do not take any pleasure from Mr. Limbaugh's misfortune, whether he calls himself a victim or not. I have seen drug addiction and would not wish it on anyone. But this article was bang-on.
PS.. I am not from DU nor am I an FR noob. I am also most definately not a lib or dem.

You should read the book LEGACY. I'm reading it now and it explains how Clinton's first response is lie. If he's later confronted with indesputable truth he makes up another lie and stalls as long as he can. Eventually he says "That's old news". And the media buys it.

Plus, Clinton would have blamed us for "feeling OUR pain."
