So sorry to hear you're under the weather. Did you catch the "crud" from Logan or is Cal's virus still out there in cyberspace (hey Cal...what do you think...a virus named after you :o) )

"A salute to the Navy!" I can do that..:))
As a United States Marine, I *belonged* to the Navy.
I then was a Navy wife - then an Air Force wife - mother of an Army son - grandmother of an Air Force grandson..:))
No Coast Guard connection, though, although I once stayed at a Holiday Inn Express and saw a life buoy by the pool..:))

Give that little angel a hug from me when she is home.
I was holding a 2 month old this weekend....made me want another one. But I think 3 is enough.

My older son was a military brat, too, and was an officer in JRROTC in high school.
Went to the University of Florida School of Medicine and became a Physician Assistant.
After clinical practice a few years, he now is a Professor at Nova Southeastern School of Medicine in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Many of you know he prior to 9/11 volunteered to serve on the Medical Disaster Assistance Team for the South Florida Region, deployed during Hurricane Lili to Louisiana in the flooded areas.
After 9/11, his unit was scheduled to go to Ground Zero to provide primary medical care in the debris to workers, but found they had a sufficient number of responders in the Northeast, and stood down.
(He is on call 24/7 to respond to disasters - floods, fires, earthquakes, large-scale bombings, hurricanes, etc. - and serves in this under the Federal Government.)
Always one to volunteer (two years with a Christian Medical Mission group to South and Central America) and serve his fellow man, another two-year career was as a Police Officer in Pinellas Park, Florida, by Clearwater and Tampa.
Working on his doctorate and speaking 2 or 3 times a year at International Medical Conferences, he still wanted a "hobby."
Although he had never played a musical instrument other than self-taught guitar, he joined the Police Pipe & Drum Corps of Florida and learned to play a drum. While this was September of last year and had been told newcomers after one year were 'allowed' to audition for membership and participate in the bigger events, in March they waived that and promoted him to full membership and listed him as such.
Like the units in New York City who played at the funerals of police and firemen killed in the line of duty, they do such honors for those in Florida, and other places by invitation.
They also perform internationally, before in Dublin and perhaps next year in Canada.
He proudly (and is a true Scotsman through my grandmother) wears tailored kilts, as in the photograph below.
The Chief of Police in Pinellas Park granted permission to adorn his sash with their patch, and was pleased to be represented on this prestigious unit.
Tying this in to our military theme, I point out their schedule for this month and next playing for the Marine Corps Leage State Convention; Annual Firefighter's Ball; Broward County Sheriff's Ball; and on November 7th, the Marine Corps Ball for the State of Florida.

Hard to think of your little boy as 6' 5" tall, 180 lbs. and now is 49....
I surely have been blessed with my three children, all Christian, "right-thinking" useful citizens...:))

Need to share the 'puter..|:>( - will be back this evening.
