OIC meet paints bleak picture of Islamic world

PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia : A bleak picture of weakness and disarray in the Muslim world was painted by foreign ministers meeting here ahead of the biggest Islamic summit since the September 11 terror attacks on the United States.

Islamic countries stand accused of terrorism and are threatened by sanctions, plagued by economic problems and ethnic strife, while some are under foreign occupation, speakers noted at the opening session of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) meeting.

OIC secretary general Abdelouahed Belkeziz warned that the "dangers" confronting Muslims were "unprecedented in (their) contemporary history."

Belkeziz said "Muslims are filled with feelings of impotence and frustration as some of their countries are occupied, others are under sanctions, a third group threatened and a fourth group accused of sponsoring terrorism," he said.

"Muslims abroad are considered with suspicion, besieged, deprived of their rights."

Belkeziz also pointed to the economic weakness of Islamic states, many of which depend heavily on oil revenue that can no longer meet the needs of their growing populations, causing rising unemployment and poverty.

"Our economic conditions are fragile and weak compared to large economic blocs and we cannot achieve minimum economic coordination," he said.

The world seemed to have forgotten about the high values of Islam after the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States, stressing only the violence perpetrated by extremists, Belkeziz added, deploring the inability of politicians and the media to correct this image.

"Islam itself is being accused in its culture, civilisation and message. Our religion is a religion of peace and tolerance... it stresses the sanctity of human life, it upholds the noble values and calls for welfare.

"Our media is unable to confront the false accusations and joint Islamic political action is unable to confer to us protection and pride," he said.

Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar of incoming OIC chairman Malaysia said "the threat of unilateralism, globalisation and terrorism, the precarious situation in the Middle East and the uncertain future of Iraq ... have only served to threaten our very survival."

He called on the leaders of the Islamic states, who are to meet at the summit here Thursday, to end the paralysis of the OIC and give it a political mandate and financial means to forge closer cooperation between its 57 members and 1.3 billion people scattered on four continents.

"Malaysia believes that we need to move away from mere rhetoric," he said, calling for closer cooperation to "close the gap of economic disparities" between OIC members.

Gulf Arab oil states have a GDP per capita of more that 10,00O dollars per year, when many other Islamic states, especially in Africa, rank very low in terms of human development.

Qatari Foreign Minister Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabr Al-Thani said the Islamic world needed "a general renaissance."

I watched a television talk show last night in Kuala Lumpur that spent over two hours covering the OIC conference and discussing the "Middle East Problem".

The same rhetoric was rehashed over and over about how the United States is so "demonic" and how they are guilty of crimes against humanity, how they work together with Israel to keep the Muslims down...how the Muslim world should united together to "confront" this evil....

The end of the program basically said that the only realistic way to "confront" the United States and force America to change it's policy was from within. That muslim countries must work hard to develop "friends" within the US political system and the media who will be sympathetic to their cause at whatever the cost.

What I found interesting and more or less disturbing is that not once in the entire program did anyone even make mention of suicide bombers, Islamic Jihad, Hamas or the extremists that they allow to operate freely within their midsts.

It went on to say how Americans need to be educated about Islam and need to understand how Islam can universally unite everyone in peace.

This can be done by working through the media (newspapers, television and radio) because with the exception of George Bush, Americans are nice people but pity them, they are "gullible" and so the Muslim world needs to "station" those who are sympathetic to the Muslim cause in positions of authority where they can help to influence public opinion and regardless of what the costs may be the OIC needs to appoint a special body to oversee this mission.

Towards the end of the program I was nearly in shock hearing these people describe how the Muslim world needs to unite to ensure that George W. Bush and the rest of the Republicans need to be defeated in the next election.

And so there you have it.

As long as they play the victim, blaming jews and American for their problems, while preaching murder and hatred in their mosques, they are doomed.

In other words islamicnuts believe that democrats will allow them to convert or murder more people then republicans will.
Those dems are so fair and principled in their dealings with diverse peoples.

And it's up to us to make certain that the cost of such treason is prohibitive. Friends of Islam are enemies of America.

This is not a localizable threat. Anywhere there are Muslims, in any number, the threat will be present. See also:

"Islam itself is being accused in its culture, civilisation and message. Our religion is a religion of peace and tolerance... it stresses the sanctity of human life, it upholds the noble values and calls for welfare.

Prove it.

You can start by rounding up those who incite murder and hatred, and dance in the streets handing out candy on 9-11.

What's that? Your religion KILLS people who do that?

Lying to the Infidel is a virtue. Deeds, not Creeds.

Other than starvation and anarchy in Africa, and the peculiar lunacy of North Korea, the only places on Earth that are totally messed up and unstable are those infected with Islam.

1 - how true - "Islamic countries stand accused of terrorism and are threatened by sanctions, plagued by economic problems and ethnic strife, while some are under foreign occupation"

they need an Islamic 'Pogo', and analyze the reason - "We have met the enemy, and he is ys !!"

instead of blaming the west.

I know, I lived in a number of Moslem countries.

This is probably an apocryphal story, but supposedly some
Muslims asked someone involved in the "Star Wars" movies
why there were no Muslims in the films. The answer? "Because it's the future."
