"The Ten Commandments"
By Terry Silva
The flap over the Ten Commandments monument has got me wondering just what about them would be so offensive to the lawyers that filed the lawsuit to remove the Ten Commandments monument.
Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Gee, thats a tough one, especially for those who worship the almighty dollar or the newest superstar.
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. Yep, that one violates free speech. But how come we allow all sorts of profanity in our schools, even in the books the kids are required to read, and yet they cant say a prayer or even talk about god. You cant say the N word, yet can profane the name of God, which is equally offensive to me. Special rooms are allocated for gay students, yet those wanting to study the Bible are told to take it outside. Shouldnt free speech be everyones right, not just the atheists?
Thou shalt not kill. Now this is a no brainer, right? Except, lawyers will tell you that their client is just a product of his environment and it wasnt really his fault. And its OK to kill unborn innocent babies so their moms wont be inconvenienced or bear the consequences of their actions.
Thou shalt not commit adultery. Yea, we threw this one out of the courts, including sodomy. Who cares if it breaks up families and ends up costing society millions of dollars each year.
Thou shalt not steal. A good one, right? But, they argue that their client was unfairly profiled because of his ethnicity.
Thou shalt not bear false witness. OK, now we find the real reason these lawyers dont like the Ten Commandments. With Clinton setting the example, lying has become an art form. Lie as long as you dont get caught. The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth has been replace by it depends on your definition of such and such. It is not truth and justice these lawyers are after, it is getting their clients off.
Thou shalt not covet. Its not your fault you dont have everything your neighbors do, so sue them. Sue the car company for not making your car safe enough to withstand a crash at 80 mph while you are drunk. Sue the gun manufacturer because they dont make bullets that refuse to hurt people.
I guess I can see why the ACLU is so offended. But thankfully there will be one judgment bar they wont be able to elude. Personally, I dont think that it is as important to have the Ten Commandments in some courtroom, as it is to have them engraved in our own hearts.
