Perhaps Republicans are saving their strongest senate candidate for 2006 when Hillary runs for reelection. If I had to choose between knocking off Schumer or Clinton, I would prefer to knock off Clinton. Schumer could not possibly be a serious candidate at the national level while Clinton is a very likely candidate for president in 2008.

I am skeptical that Hillary will run for re-election after W. wins next year. I think she only has intentions of using NY for higher office and will use 2007 to travel across the country.
