This will be a resource for all information and all activities for the race to the finish line. We can elect our true Republican candidates. We need a freep wherever we can get it, especially Western Kansas. People on street corners waving signs, handing out fliers, putting information on cars at churches etc. Let me know what you can do and I will put you in touch with the right people. This is urgent, we need you now, not Monday.

Poll: Shallenburger gains ground
The Eagle-KWCH poll now shows Republican Tim Shallenburger within striking distance of Kathleen Sebelius.
BY ALAN BJERGA
The Wichita Eagle
Voter support for Tim Shallenburger has surged in recent days to cut in half Kathleen Sebelius' early lead in the Kansas governor's race, according to the final campaign poll for The Wichita Eagle and KWCH 12 Eyewitness News.
The poll, conducted by SurveyUSA late last week, placed Sebelius' support at 51 percent and Shallenburger's at 44 percent among likely voters, with 5 percent undecided or planning to vote for other candidates.
The race could be even closer than that, since the margin of error for the poll is plus or minus 4 percentage points. That means Sebelius could have a little as 47 percent and Shallenburger could have as much as 48 percent support.
The race has closed since last week, when a poll showed support for Sebelius at 53 percent and support for Shallenburger at 38 percent.
Neither campaign expressed surprise that the race is tightening up as the Tuesday election nears.
"This is Kansas," a state where Republican candidates have a natural edge, Sebelius spokeswoman Nicole Corcoran-Basso said. "This is no shock at all."
The poll of 704 likely voters continued to show trends constant throughout the campaign.
Shallenburger carries about two-thirds of voters who describe themselves as Republican or "pro-life." Sebelius draws significant support from Republican voters and wins 60 percent support among women.
The swing to Shallenburger predominantly came among male, undecided and third-party voters, all of whom moved their preferences toward the state treasurer. Shallenburger also led in the Wichita area, where 50 percent of those surveyed supported him and 46 percent favored Sebelius.
Shallenburger spokesman Bob Murray said the SurveyUSA poll, which the campaign has criticized in the past when it showed wider Sebelius leads, is now matching internal Shallenburger campaign polls. The poll uses computers, rather than people, to make the calls, a polling method Shallenburger has questioned.
"We've said all along that the numbers are closing," Murray said.
Campaign spokesmen said the poll wouldn't affect today's final day of campaigning.
Shallenburger will make appearances in Wichita, Dodge City, Garden City and Liberal. Sebelius is campaigning in Topeka.
HOW THE POLL WAS DONE
The SurveyUSA poll was conducted Thursday, Friday and Saturday and is based on automated telephone interviews with 704 people who described themselves as likely voters.
It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
Data from the 2000 census was used to ensure a balanced sample of voters. The larger the number of people polled, the more accurate the poll results will be.
The margin of error is larger for responses of subgroups, such as those based on gender and age.

Any suggestions on Chair for Country Commissioner? Charlotte O'Hara is the "Smart Growth" person though she's Republican. I am not sure if Developers and RE people love it just because it keeps property values high or if I am missing something. The moderate GOPer I met at the Taff sign waving this morning said to vote for her. I am not into this Smart Growth/Urban Sprawl stuff. I know nothing about Annabeth Surbaugh.
To: RAT Patrol
From the campaign literature I've seen, all the local RINO's endorse Surbaugh, the same ones that support Dennis Moore. I voted for O'Hara.
To: TroutStalker
Thanks. I am not real comfortable with smart growth, but it appears they both have their own version of it. This makes all the difference to me (what do you know, I was actually able to put a Red Star article to good use):
Taxation is another issue that divides the two candidates. Surbaugh said county taxes are "just about right," while O'Hara said they are "too high."
Surbaugh said she would support a future tax increase dedicated to county infrastructure. "People have overwhelmingly said they want the goods and services we're delivering, and it's a quality of life they expect in Johnson County."
Surbaugh said the county's yearly increases in property valuations "is a good thing. We all want to be in a community that is growing."
O'Hara advocates overhauling the county tax appraiser's office. Under her plan, home values would not be linked to market values. She would use current property values as a benchmark for future development costs.
Even if property tax rates don't rise, the appraiser's office can mask hidden tax increases every year through inflated valuations, O'Hara said. Politicians then have the cover to say they did not raise taxes, she said.
"There is so much waste in this county budget," O'Hara said. "It's absolutely amazing."
O'Hara said no to any new bistate tax and to Johnson County subsidies for the Truman Sports Complex.
I'm voting for O'Hara
To: RAT Patrol
I've heard O'Hara is the conservative. Annabeth Surbaugh is endorsed by a lot of left-wing groups. I'm not a Johnson County person though, so don't listen to me too closely.

This is the last post I will make, (unless something real important comes up) you guys are a great bunch of conservatives, I would just encourage you to call as many folks as you can tonight and encourage them to vote for the right people. You are aware of the issues and the lies that have permeated this campaign and you can defend your choices as they have to do with your area I won't even mention any options, but if you do have a problem, post it and myself or others can help. This will not turn into a fight on the eve of the election so just ask and it will be supplied to you. God bless you all and we will hope for a good outcome.
I will tell you a little about myself, I'm a State Representative from the NW corner of Kansas, I served with both Phill Kline and Tim Shallenburger. I ran, the first time against Mike Hayden's sister-in-law and didn't have enough since to know I could not win but with a lot of hard work and determination, I won with 56%of the vote. In the primary this year, I beat Sebelius's brother-in-law Doug Sebelius, son of a popular congressman, Keith Sebelius. I only won by 158 votes and did not have the time to campaign like I always have in the past. I also have a general against a democrat that has done everything to sound just like me.
Thanks to lagamorph for her post on the judge race, what a great American, I have supplied this information to many that have asked, and they will post it to many more. Its probably too late for an impact in that election but its something we need to be aware of in the next election, we can make a difference and we will. Have faith and pray for the outcome of this campaign, again God Bless and have a great election day.

PS One thing I might add, Thornburgh is predicting less than a 50% turn out, the democrats are motivated and will vote in droves, this makes it that much more important to get the vote out. LETS ROLL!!!!!!

We went for an outpatient laproscopic biopsy last Monday. The surgeon nicked a blood vessel and she bled quite a bit. They had to make an incision all the way across her mid section to stop the bleeding. We ended up in the hopsital all the way until Friday night. Now we are no closer to having an answer but have to recover from major surgery. The baby is doing great though and we are blessed in so many ways with helpful friends, family and prayers.
I am looking forward to election night and probably will be here. Is this going to be out live Kansas election thread similar to what we did last time?
