The president's rally has a very real political purpose. But today, some bipartisan supporters held a rally of their own to show they support the Republican president and Democrat Tim Johnson for Senate.
John Thune's campaign hopes tomorrow's rally will convince Bush supporters to also be Thune supporters. But, not everyone who likes the President plans to vote for Thune. Some registered Republicans who plan to vote for Tim Johnson held a rally in Aberdeen today.
Registered Republican Tom Aman thinks highly of the commander and chief. He voted for him in 2000, and has contributed to every one of George Bush's campaigns since he first ran for the governor of Texas.
Tom Aman says, "I love him. He's been a great leader, and I'll vote for him again. But, we also believe in the balance of power."
Because he wants those checks and balances in Washington, Aman and these registered Republicans plan to vote for a Democrat in this year's Senate race.
Aman says, "Tim Johnson is a moderate Democrat, and I'm a moderate Republican. In South Dakota, you can't really tell the difference."
Floyd A Miller says, "I voted for President Bush's father, and I voted for President Bush, I was born a Republican. However, I've never voted a straight ticket and I never will."
And even though they respect the President, these Republicans have mixed feelings about tomorrow's rally for John Thune.
Bea Premack says, "He's indeed the president and it's an opportunity to go and hear him and be a part of a major event in our community."
Miller says, "I don't think it's our climate that he comes for, he's not playing golf. He's probably not pheasant hunting. It's strictly politcal."
Of course, Thune's campaign is also trying to rally moderates and Democrats who may not agree with Tom Daschle or Tim Johnson.

These people make me ill. Maybe once they see what happened at the "memorial" in MN, they'll come to their senses and vote for anybody who isn't a Dem.

Seems like the vote fraud allegations against the Democrats aren't hurting Johnson at all.

Tom Aman says, "I love him. He's been a great leader, and I'll vote for him again. But, we also believe in the balance of power." Does this dolt understand that Daschle is pretty much stopping everything the President wants to do?

A RINO is a RINO is a RINO is a RINO whether it's Kalifornia, New York, Texas, or South Dakota.
