She's at the magic 50% level. Barring any major gaffes, she appears to have this one in the bag.

That coupled with the fact that Dole lost no support from the prior poll (she actually went up one point), despite her negatives doubling, suggests to me that she is in very good position. The reason this poll is closer than the last one is because Bowles gained some support... that was to be expected as he upped his name ID. But he's not taking any away from Dole, which is what he needs to do in order to win.

I wouldn't be completely confident of this. One thing you have to say about Dole is that she's a pretty lousy candidate. So is Bowels. But did you see the debate between these two on C-Span? She basically admitted to being a carpet-bagger, in so many words. He kept saying how she hadn't lived in the state for 44 years. She couldn't disagree, could only explain how doing all that work up in Washington made it important for her to live there. Jeez.

With a lot of money, relentlessly negative ads, and a subtle play on the carpet bagger theme, plus Dole's apparently contentless campaign, this one could be a major upset.

When will politicians learn that you actually have to stand for something -- rather than just have a resume -- to get people to vote for you??
