> Just like Vietnam became all about Nixon, as if LBJ never existed. <

A friend of mine is an old-school Democrat. She refuses to blame the Vietnam debacle on any Democrat. So it’s can’t be LBJ’s fault. Nor JFK’s. It’s entirely Eisenhower’s fault.

If Ike had been a Democrat, she would have had to go all the way back to Herbert Hoover.

Enhanced subsidies were handed out because during the Covid scare many people had decreased incomes but customary expenses.

Such is no longer the case, and such extreme subsidies should no longer be the case.

Perhaps:

PARTIAL ENHANCED SUBSIDY CONTINUATION [for 2026 & 2027]

Except as required by the Fair Share PPACA premium minimums below, the monthly to be paid on a plan would not exceed the Schumer formula amount by more than 1.5 times the household’s income in percentage terms of FPL exceeds 90% FPL in terms of dollars.

Example 1: If the household’s income is 400% of FPL [$128,600 for 4 people], the percentage difference is 310% and increase would typically be capped at $465/month.

Example 2: If the household’s income is 300% of FPL [$96,450 for 3 people], the percentage difference is 210% and increase would typically be capped at $315/month.

FAIR SHARE PPACA PREMIUM MINIMUMS

The premium minimums shall be, except as may be waived by the coverage provider, whichever is the higher:
1. 2% of the Medicare premium amount per insured year of age as of the start of coverage
2. a percentage of the premium amount equal to the household income percentage of FPL - 70% divided by 3

Coverage providers may partially or fully waive the minimums for up to 20% of their PPACA policy holders after the first month’s premium is paid provided a $20 financial review fee is paid upfront. Waivers may not be granted in any space open to insureds (to prevent racial discrimination and threats). Coverage providers need not waive for the entire remaining term.

Coverage providers shall only be federally reimbursed for 90% of the waiver amounts, the remaining 10% of the waiver amounts to be priced in by each coverage provider.

Coverage providers may increase base premium amounts to fund waivers or to be able to make a profit of about 3% of claims paid.

Doesn’t matter if they do.

Utilization rates are down for a reason.

You may have the insurance, but can you afford to use it?

Subsidies won’t fix that.

Only scrapping Obamacare and getting government the hell out of it will.

Rates have increased during the inflationary Covid years so much that people are shocked to see them. So we provide another three year’s of subsidy. Think of the shock then! No way will it be accepted.

The best way to undercut Obamacare is to make explicit the subsidies flowing this way and that under the ACA.

This particular subsidy is one thing - an ostensibly temporary accommodation to the impact of COVID. It should not be extended because the temporary economic dislocation of early COVID has ended. So, that subsidy ends. Politically, the GOP will shoot itself in the foot if it agrees to extend the subsidy, or any portion of it. Republicans should be out there explaining that the cost increases are a function of the design of Obamacare. This is a feature not a bug! And Democrats own the ACA. Rub their noses in it!

Beyond this immediate issue, the one thing that will kill support for ACA is full disclosure of all subsidy effects of the ACA regime. When I was facing nearly $2000/month premiums for a Silver plan, I knew intuitively that about $600-$700 of that could have been the full premium cost of coverage for my care, and the rest was a buy-down of the premiums for others. Make that kind of breakdown explicit in every premium statement, and the political support for the ACA will evaporate.

Wrong. Small business owners get the subsidies in huge numbers. Obamacare destroyed the market, leaving small business owners limited options. GOP is going to get crushed unless they extend for one year and come up with a fix.

Allentown is filled with illegal aliens and welfare parasites.

I would bet at least 70% of the city residences are on some type of government assistance. The Allentown schools are nearly half non-English speaking students.

When Trump is talking about people from shithole countries, he is really referring to Allentown PA. /spit

Delete Obamacare and insurance gets cheaper and insurance companies make less money.

Only the kickback tribe refuses to do so it’s why Obamacare was all about in the first place.

Democrat stench lingers

Why would they face fallout? No Republicans voted for the ACA.
This lies at the feet of the Dems, and no one else. We fought tooth and nail, but they passed it without any Republican support. Put the blame where it belongs.

It is good that PBS no longer gets federal funding.

Perhaps they can ask all the Obama Care patients for money.

The Republicans do need to come up with an ACA reset. My suggestion is to reintroduce the ACA mandatory provisions, but label is as a requirement of the Democratic Party designed program. With each fine for non-participation make sure the person being hurt knows this is part of the Democratic Party plan.

Also the narrative needs to change from health care to health insurance as the two are different. The original promised to lower annual family health care costs by $2,500. It never did and never could have. So why not focus on that. Again, this is all about health insurance and not health care. This is about insurance companies getting financially bailed out for a broken plan that when the mandatory nature was removed, absolutely collapsed.

I wouldn’t doubt it at all.

There are 24 Million or so people on Obamacare, and about 93% receive some sort of subsidy... or about 7-8% of the population have an Obamacare plan, and nearly all of them get some sort of subsidy. It’s beyond foolish to believe none of those people are on Obamacare or other government assistance.

People who think Republicans are only folks who don’t take or need assistance is idiotic to its core.

I don’t know the exact numbers, but in tight races you better believe a few hundred votes matter.

With only the slimmest of majorities, and control of the white house, the Democrats should be sitting pretty to handily take back the house. We will see what happens, the democrat brand is in the toilet which hurts them, but Trump isn’t on the ballot which hurts Republicans.

November is a while away, but if the Democrats don’t take back the house next fall, its hart to see how anyone could argue they are a viable national party at that point.
