Ken Paxton fights to keep divorce records private, accuses press of invading his personal life

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton wants the records in his divorce case to remain private.

In a court filing earlier this week, Paxton’s lawyer argued that the case records should remain sealed because the media organizations arguing for their release want to “invade and publicize the most sensitive aspects of the Paxtons’ marital and private lives.” He added state law also does not require the records to be made public, calling the attempt to access them an “unprecedentedly broad and intrusive request.”

Paxton’s wife, state Sen. Angela Paxton, declined to comment for this story.

Angela Paxton filed for divorce in July, accusing her husband of adultery. Soon after, she requested all records in the case be placed under seal, arguing that doing so would “not have an adverse affect on the public health or safety.”

The judge presiding at the time, Ray Wheless, agreed and made all the case records private, including those that had already been released. Wheless later recused himself from the case. While he did not give a reason why, he has longtime ties to the Paxtons and has made contributions to the attorney general’s campaign.

A group of eight media organizations in September requested the decision to seal be reversed.

The media organizations argued that both the attorney general and his wife are elected officials subject to public scrutiny, and noted that Paxton has been accused of impropriety multiple times while in elected office, including fraud, abuse of office and self-dealing. He was impeached in 2023 but beat the charges.

Details of the couple’s assets, which were scrutinized during the impeachment process, will be a subject of the divorce case.

Paxton, a conservative Christian, has not publicly addressed the infidelity allegations and attributed the divorce to the work of political enemies.

Paxton, a conservative Christian…

🫤 adultery never bodes well in the Scriptures esp. for rulers or wannabe ones.

Paxton is flawed, though good at his job. The opwning of private records is straight from the Obama playbook (Jack/Jeri Ryan)

False accusations in no-fault divorce states are often made to sway for additional alimony and custody issues. There is often no avenues for rebuttal.

Exactly!
Any politician particularly a conservative who thinks somehow he will be treated differently is a fool! Perhaps too foolish to vote for. (Narcissism!) If in Paxton’s case he couldn’t keep it zipped he only has himself to blame. If it came out of the blue, the dice of life has rolled against you find something else to do for awhile. Maybe you can do a come back.

But scripture repeatedly tells us the L--d DETESTS liars, so Cornyn needs to retire ASAP.

Is alimony still a thing? I think a lot of states have gotten away from alimony. As far as custody issues goes, I've never heard of adultery impacting a custody decision. They'd have to be accusations of something like drugs or abuse or sexual assault.

Here's what I see are the possibilities regarding this case:

1) Either he did cheat on his wife. Or

2) She's the one who cheated and is hoping that being the loudest to accuse him of cheating causes others to treat her like the victim, not the villain.

3) She's just one of those crazy mad ex-wives accusing him of anything hoping something sticks to harm his reputation and career so everyone will hate him as much as she does. Or

4) The left is paying his ex-wife to make the divorce as ugly as possible.

I've personally experienced #'s 2 and 3 above when my ex-wife cheated and left. She accused me of way more other things too. I had to go through a microscope level investigation by my state's version of child protective services just to have regular visits with my kids. And as soon as I was cleared she'd accuse me of something else to begin the process again. Then again. And again. And again. In some ways I can relate to Trump in that the more I was investigated and determined the accusations were false, the more that neutral observers determined that I must be a pretty good person to have no dirt to be mad about.

Fortunately from the beginning neither my immediate family members nor closest church friends believed her, even though many of them were closer friends to her than me. There's something to be said about Christianity being real in your life to the point that you live it like you mean it. And in the end I not only got custody of the kids (thank you Jesus!) I was vindicated in the eyes of virtually everyone except her closest family members. It was only years later when my ex got back to Jesus and got away from her obsession of destroying my life that people started respecting her again.

Unfortunately for Paxton, this is probably more about destroying his political career than anything else.

This is how Obama beat Ryan in Illinois. Somehow sealed documents become unsealed.

It’s not enough to just seal divorce records. There should also be the option of destroying them. There should at least the option destroying anything outside of division of property and financial responsibilities.
