The leftists didn't give up on California. It used to be Reagan Country and the home of the Howard-Gann tax revolt. The leftists took it over, from top to bottom. There is no reason conservatives can't take it back - Mexican Americans are social conservatives, and outside of the coastal areas, California remains an overwhelmingly red state.
We conservatives spend way too much time wondering whether it's time to give up on this or give up on that and then doing it. The leftists don't give up - they wage perpetual war and take over conservative strongholds. Their next target is Texas - how long before we start wondering if it's time to give up on Texas?

There is a huge reason conservatives can’t take it back, and that is 27% of California’s population is foreign born. I.e. they’re all from socialist countries and they’re voting for socialism. And in many ways, you can thank Reagan for this.

I don't disagree with you, but what is your plan for taking it back?
I'm trying to effect change by choosing where I spend my money, but I feel like I'm alone in that. Even here, one minute we're bashing a company for how they censor the right, and the next minute we're posting about what we're buying from them, how we're using their services, or what we're not watching on their networks that are still making money from our TV subscriptions. I think you know what I mean. How are we going to win back anything when we keep putting money in the pockets of the companies that are attacking us?

Actually, Reagan signed into law the very reason we've lost CA, NM, AZ, CO....the 1986 Amnesty Law.
1988 would be the last time CA voted for a Republican for prez.
Since 1952 it had reliably voted GOP except in 1964.
