This headline is century-old news. See Pierce v. Society of Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (1925), a Supreme Court decision that held that the Constitution then forbade Walter Marcus Pierce, governor of Oregon, from prohibiting the Society of Sisters from operating a nonpublic school. Granted, the circumstances changed somewhat, but how does Kate Brown claim power that her predecessor lacked?
