There is however a lot of coercion to go along with the far left garbage in order to keep one’s job.

Oh, yes. But that coercion almost always comes from central administration, and not from the union.
Let me give you an example. In the school district where I taught, central administration decided that American History would henceforth be an optional course. If a student didnt want to take American History, it could be replaced by World History or African History.
The history teachers were livid about that! No matter. It was a done deal.
As a physics teacher, I was also subject to insane directives from above. But the history and English teachers had it much worse.
The union was never involved in any of that. Trust me, I know.
