On coronavirus response, Louisiana Lt. Gov. Bill Nungesser shows how real apologies are done
Washington Examiner ^ | 4/13/2020 | Quin Hillyer

The political world would be a much better place if all public officials knew how to apologize for mistakes the way Louisiana Lt. Gov. Bill Nungesser did on Easter Day.

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer was interviewing Nungesser about Louisiana’s unusually high incidence of the coronavirus, part of which probably was exacerbated by Mardi Gras celebrations in February. Nungesser was saying there was only one known case in the whole state by the time of Mardi Gras, but that had federal or medical guidance come sooner, officials certainly would have considered canceling Mardi Gras.

Really? What is this? Nungesser was saying there was only one known case in the whole state by the time of Mardi Gras, (but that had federal or medical guidance come sooner, officials certainly would have considered canceling Mardi Gras.)

Say what? The guy totally passed the buck. By "federal government" he really means President Dr. Trump.

Take note how easily lies roll off a politicians forked tongue.

Louisiana is good at blaming US presidents for local mistakes.

Canceling Mardi Gras in NO might have been more complicated than one would expect.

Sounds exactly like what the NOLA Mayor said, too.

Irresponsible blamers.

For sure. That fat-assed racist NOLA mayor would have been screaming TRUMP HATES BLACKS from the top of her lungs.

The excerpt doesn’t reflect the actual content of the article or of his apology. You have to read the article which relates comments he made on celebrating St. Patrick’s day.

“Canceling Mardi Gras in NO might have been more complicated than one would expect.”

People outside of New Orleans do not understand Mardi Gras.

Had a local politician cancelled Mardi Gras, they would be run out of office or disposed of in the river or a swamp.

You can’t simply cancel Mardi Gras. That is like canceling Christmas. The city could have canceled the parades, but there still would be massive celebrations going on since the day is a holiday. Plus there are parades taking place in most communities, so it is not just a question of canceling parades in NOLA, but all along the gulf coast. Really impossible to do without directives coming out of Washington to cancel events.

You work with what you know at the time.

No apologies necessary. A simple risk assessment done in his head sufficed. All the guidance was saying there was no concern.

Is he to know more than WHO/CDC experts? No.
