The magazine/clip mixup always gets me, too. We have a Kar98k, and have more clips than we have ammo, which doesn’t say much for our 8mm mauser stores.

I can’t fire it anyway. Knocks me right on my backside.

It always bothered me whenever the friends I had made in high school talked about banning guns. I had a roommate that didn’t even want me to keep my colt .38 in the apartment because it scared him. I put a lock on my door to make him feel better, but if I wasn’t home during a break-in, he was dones-o. But because these people know nothing about firearms, these calls to action are all out of fear and not logic. Action borne of a lack of knowledge doesn’t usually end too well.

IF your 8x57 mm was a SPANISH SCORPION, AKA: The Model 1893 “long rifle” of the S-A War era, I’d try to trade you out of it, as I’m putting together a S-A War display. = “THE MARVELOUS LITTLE WAR” is one of my main/numerous interests.

Model 93 rifles were once commonplace (I once had a MINT ‘93 that was made in 1896 but it was destroyed in an apartment house fire years ago.) but in 2019 the supply of Spanish Scorpions seemx to have “dried up”.

May I suggest that you load (OR get a friendly local reloader to load for you) up some 160-200 grain GCCB at about 1600-200FPS.

Those relatively low-power Cast Bullet loads are “easy on the shoulder” & will efficiently KILL any USA game other than the BIGGEST bears.
(I shoot/hunt with a Remington Model 760 in .300 Savage & load a 180 grain GCCB load for it that is REALLY MILD in recoil/noise BUT which kills deer really well out to beyond 200M.)

FWIW, my “HOMEBREW” .300SAV gccb reloads cost LESS than 5.OO per box of 20 to load/shoot. = That makes for really inexpensive TARGET SHOOTING/DEER HUNTING.
