But we don’t vote for doctors. Donald needs votes. He will not lose his base if he hold tough, but quits name calling and the rest. And it is apparently true that he will gain more voters by changing style.

Honestly, I enjoy the ridicule he puts to these collectivist shills, and I think a lot of voters like the whole 'speaking truth to power' thing.
There's a few campaign promises he hasn't delivered on, but look at the resistance (GOP-e, administrative state and Democrats) he's had to endure.
Will he dial it back? If he's still filling stadiums full of people and enjoys a certain amount of support, he may not. Trump's no idiot and if enough competent advisers tell him to 'cut it out' he may well do that.
But...IMHO...if he backs the rhetoric off too much, it'll be seen as conciliatory and weak by not only his base but independents as well.
For me, I enjoy the street fight going on in Washington.
