I thought it was worse than that. Souter took his place I think, and he was a reliably liberal political hack. Thank you George Bush Sr!
Anthony Kennedy (Reagan appointee) served on the Court from February, 1988, to the present. David Souter (George H. W. Bush appointee) was October, 1990, to June, 2009. Bork was rejected on October 23, 1987, so I suspect I was correct, although that was two consecutive nominees from our side who were extreme legal disappointments.
I thank God that President Trump is focusing on originalist judicial philosophy, rather than trying to be "non-partisan" as Reagan and the first Bush did. A Supreme Court Justice is not supposed to represent the range of philosophies of elected politicians; a Justice is (like the statue of Blind Justice) supposed to represent the Constitution and the law as written.
