The White House has reportedly told Republican lawmakers that it wont shut down the government if the wall on the southern border is not funded in the upcoming short-term budget deal a position seemingly at odds with the promise President Trump made last month to supporters in Arizona.
Congress is set to run out of money at the end of September, setting up a now not-uncommon scenario where the lawmakers must come up with a short-term deal or shut down the government.
At an August 22 rally in Phoenix, Arizona, Trump pushed a hard line on funding for the border wall, something which many congressional Republicans have adopted a luke-warm-at-best attitude toward.
We are building a wall on the southern border, which is absolutely necessary, he said. The obstructionist Democrats would like us not to do it, believe me, [but] if we have to close down our government, we are building that wall.
However, the Washington Post reported Friday that White House officials have quietly notified Congress that the $1.6 billion of funding would not need to be in the short-term continuing resolution to fund the government until December.

If Trump does nothing, not one thing during his term in office,...at least he saved us from Hillary,..and for that he will have my eternal respect and admiration.
There will be Houston funding in this resolution. He does not need to be accused of holding up hurricane recovery. So I say keep plugging along and save the shutdown for later.
Also, note the unbelievable hypocrisy: when Obama was president, a shutdown based on his failure to agree with Congress was the fault of Congrrss (specifically, the congressional Republicans). Now, if there is a shutdown because of a disagreement with Congrrss, it is President Trump shutting down the government. Even a dog could remember back far enough to the GOP Congress being portrayed as exclusively at fault for the prospect of a shutdown. Now we have a new president and voila, it is all Trump’s fault.
Trump will, at some point, go to the mattresses over building the Wall. He has to. It will be a very, very large threat to his base support for reelection if he does not.
Another part of this is Lying RINO Paul Ryan pushing for a Dreamer bill. That should never happen in my opinion but if there is anything legislatively done on this, funding for the Wall must be included in any deal.
Stop with this nonsense. It is counter productive. President Trump and his administration are working for us. They have a huge mess to clean up. It’s going to take time. Have patience.
Sowing doubt doesn’t help anyone.
Trump is under swamp arrest now and MAGA is over. Sessions has been told to investigate Trump so that the new world order can continue. Nice try, but it is 30 years too late for ballot box to save the country. Need to shut off the swamp food of our hard earned cash through the tax system.
Uh...in case nobody over at Breitbart noticed we kind of need that money over in Houston right now. You have Americans hurting. We can build the wall but first we take care of each other
Agreed he could actually turn this into a positive. Go to the American people and say Congress refused to fund it. Set a go fund me drive and watch what happens when the money starts pouring in. What he should not
do is let this fester if the story is true. Not after what he said in Az less than 2 weeks ago.
Honestly at this point. I would take shutdown over being open.

Officials reportedly said that does not change the fact the wall remains a top priority and that it must be funded in the subsequent December bill.

With the WAPO writing, it is meant to disappoint Trump supporters, so let’s look at the truth.
The four contractors have been awarded and are set to build the four new prototype samples at the San Diego sites. That is fully funded and after the design and staging time has passed in a couple of weeks they will get their Notice to Proceed for the various 10 Yard sections.
Various other Border Wall contracts, not to the big new design, but contracts none the less, are underway.
The Congress does not report to the President. They are separate branches. The Congress reports to the electorate — We the People.
Threats of Shut Downs from one branch to another have proven maneuvers for time and little else.
In October, I am going to set up to work part time on the Dr. Kelli Ward campaign. Flake defeated in the Primary does push Congress. All the rest of this is Fake News.
What can each of us do — that is the real question.
He has already put one Judge on the supreme court.
I hope he gets more done, but, if congress keeps him from doing that. I’d be ok with it.
Why the HELL are they even considering a CR???
There will be no Tax Reform either. Socialism has won. Prepare for the financial reckoning that is sure to come.
Hopefully in 2018 we will send home enough of these Republicans who are really Democrat operatives and elect enough real conservatives to turn things around.
Um no. Even obama had the guts to say.. if x is not in the budget, then it’s a veto. Trump is historically amnesty. Whoever drank the wall kool-aid.. well what day you now? He won’t even use veto power.. so it’s swamp filling time in DC with a debt ceiling increase.. shameful.
If this is true he better have alternative funding in mind. He has said unequivocally there will be a wall. He also said in AZ he will shut down the Government if it doesnt get funding. No fudging this it would be a blatant betrayal of what he told everyone a week ago. We know everyone he has surrounded himself with is pushing to stop the wall. This could be his no new taxes moment.
The difference here is that Trump can end DACA by himself. Problems happen when he needs the beltway GOP to carry the ball. They’ve utterly abandoned us. What is he to do in these cases? We don’t elect a dictator. So Trump shuts down the Government and the GOP passes a pork filled budget with the Dems. That helps us how?
I can see why Trump would want to start focusing on the primaries and midterms at this point since the beltway GOP has proven they have no interest in advancing our agenda. Congress is on the ballot in 2018. Trump is not.
“get their Notice to Proceed for the various 10 Yard sections.”
10 yard sections.
My point is this. We have watched as the people who believe in the agenda have been pushed out or “resigned”. So what is left is team who would fit right in with a HRC Administration. To me the wall is the indication of how much these people are steering the Agenda. So when Trump re-affirmed the wall including shutting down the Government trump if it’s not funded l felt relief...now this.
Increasingly worried about Breitbart. Almost every story out of them for a month has been negative-—90% turn out not to be true.
I don’t know what Bannon is doing here. Conservative Treehouse finds positive Trump news every single day.
+1
Oh, BS. get off the Ivanaka stuff.
Four bids for prototype walls were put in yesterday. There is no evidence Ivanka has shaped any policy at all since the missile strike-—and that seemed to have worked quite well.
This notion that Trump is a child led around by McMaster or Jared has to end. It’s precisely the view the leftists have.
Nothing will be resolved at the ballot box.
The last election was an object lesson. The Deep State will never voluntarily relinquish power, no matter who gets elected. They have successfully obstructed almost every single policy for which Trump was voted into office. They will continue to do so until they are removed.
Democrats and the GOPe are allied in a common cause - to take away whatever they can carry for themselves. They work for lobbyists and wealthy corporate executives who back them. Voters are merely decoration, and not even necessary in some states.
The Leftist and Muslim totalitarians are openly showing us how they really do things. It has very little to do with elections, rule-of-law, or civil debate.
Real change must come from massive reductions in Government, "Non-Profit", Academic, and Media institutions. The best non-violent course would be to drastically cut funding for all of the above.
The problem of how to force legislators to do that remains unsolved.
