Months after campaigning for Hillary Clinton, Trayvon Martins mother is considering running for office herself, Miami news sources reported.
The only thing I can do is try, Sybrina Fulton told Miami ABC affiliate WPLG. And, I am not afraid to try.
Fulton spent part of 2016 campaigning for Clinton. In an op-ed she penned for CNN, Fulton explained she endorsed the former first lady because Clinton emphasized the Black Lives Matter movement and backed gun control efforts.
George Zimmerman, a former neighborhood watchman, killed Martin, Fultons 17-year-old son, five years ago in Sanford, Fla. A Florida jury later acquitted Zimmerman, who said he killed Martin because he felt threatened.
In Fultons view, more needs to be done to stop the shooting deaths of Black children. She was determined not to become a victim herself and to ensure her son did not become yet another statistic.
After Zimmerman killed Martin, Fulton became a leading voice for Black Lives Matter. She has also become a fierce advocate for the mothers of gun violence victims.
In Fultons new book, Rest in Power, she and Trayvons father, Tracy Martin, chronicled their journey from despair to activism, WPLG reported.
Fulton and the elder Martin also started a non-profit foundation dedicated to ending gun violence and supporting families through education and mentoring.
But in remarks earlier this month at a town hall meeting held at her alma mater, Miami Norland Senior High School, Fulton said she believes her actions still arent enough.
I am considering running for office I can do my best, Fulton said, not specifying which office she may seek.
The meeting was organized by WPLGs My Future, My Choice program, which attempts to raise awareness about ending the cycle of youth gun violence in Miami. Cast members from the Academy-Award winning moving Moonlight were also present, according to the news station.
Just dont do a write in in cursive
She should run. Just not for office.
Well, she knows where to pursue the bucks.
But the media, which said Trayvon was right to beat someone up for asking a question, would have to give her the same ‘respect’ LOL!
Would make for some ‘must watch’ interviews!
I guess any white or Hispanic interviewers would lay on the ground so she could beat them if she didn’t like a question.
she can start by explaining why she was an absentee mother who’s own mother was forced to raise her son, why she wasn’t a part of her sons life until he was famous in death, and why her role as a parent ended as soon as the sex was over.
but stranger things have happened; just look at barbara lee and the chick in the cowboy hats.

I agree——but it’s not white people doing the killing.
.
Her son didn’t even live with her from what I recall. She’s unfit for office.
I’d rather jump into a swimming pool full of brand new razor blades of various sizes than vote for either.
The woman can’t even speak in coherent sentences without being coached. Reminds me of Cynthia McKinney.
I already thought she lived off public money.
Preeminently qualified!
Outstanding in her field!
Parent of the decade!
Hey, what the hell. In NYC they honor a terrorist with a parade. Being a mom of a thug, running for office? I’m sure she will give it her full attention, like she did raising St. Travon.
“who said he killed Martin because he felt threatened.”
I don’t always get my head bashed on the pavement, but when I do, I “feel threatened”.
She lives in an alternate reality.
Why don’t she go to Chicago and see if she can help those poor Black chillin and keep them from killing each other. I guess no one will pay her to do that, and wouldn’t want to do it out of the goodness of her heart. Always MONEY$$$$$$$ that is all those people think about.
Did they name the district? Is the incumbent D or R?
If D, this could be worthy of popcorn.
I’m only surprised it’s taken her this long to consider politics. Did she say which office?
I suppose she wanted to wait and see if Michelle Obama was going to ‘run’ for anything right after leaving the White House. Time to call Al Sharpton on speed-dial.
I haven’t seen or heard from Rev. Al in sometime.
Hopefully Debbie Wasserman-Schultz’s.
