The move, expected Wednesday, continues the steep political rise of the daughter of Indian immigrants that started six years ago when the Bamberg native was elected as South Carolina’s first female and minority governor.

Giving up a governorship to become ambassador to the toothless UN is considered part of a "steep political rise"? Sounds more like a severe loss of power and policy-making ability. It's not like being UN ambassador is a springboard to political power. Why would she want this?

“McMaster, a 69-year-old Columbia attorney, has craved the governor’s seat since losing the 2010 GOP primary election to Haley. McMaster was the first statewide politician to back Trump’s upstart presidential bid.”

Maybe it’s more about McMaster than Haley.

Maybe she doesn’t like being a governor.

Yep, ambassador to the UN is a dead end job. The only thing they do over there these days is debate about global warming. Maybe Haley is just tired of being governor and wants to go wine and dine with the world elite.

Why would she want this?

Her term for governor is up in 2 years and she can't run for governor again for another 4 years after that. So, maybe job security ?

She only wanted two terms as governor and wants to move to senate or Washington. This is just a stepping stone to pad the resume. Remember the governor of SC is more limited than in other states.

Try this on for size. It would give her some credibility in foreign affairs in case she wants a run at the Presidency to be the first woman President. That would fill a hole in a resume that governors have a hard time filling.

I think it might turn out to be a masterstroke by Trump, adding a woman to his team even though he’s not PC addicted while giving the GOP a nice bench for the future as well.
