The move, expected Wednesday, continues the steep political rise of the daughter of Indian immigrants that started six years ago when the Bamberg native was elected as South Carolinas first female and minority governor.
Giving up a governorship to become ambassador to the toothless UN is considered part of a "steep political rise"? Sounds more like a severe loss of power and policy-making ability. It's not like being UN ambassador is a springboard to political power. Why would she want this?

“At the same time, that does not mean we just flat out open our borders. We can’t do that. We cannot continue to allow immigrants to come here illegally. And in this age of terrorism, we must not let in refugees whose intentions cannot be determined.
“We must fix our broken immigration system. That means stopping illegal immigration. And it means welcoming properly vetted legal immigrants, regardless of their race or religion. Just like we have for centuries.
“We would make international agreements that were celebrated in Israel and protested in Iran, not the other way around.

“McMaster, a 69-year-old Columbia attorney, has craved the governors seat since losing the 2010 GOP primary election to Haley. McMaster was the first statewide politician to back Trumps upstart presidential bid.”
Maybe it’s more about McMaster than Haley.

Maybe she doesn’t like being a governor.

Two of the last three presidents we've had were governors. The last UN ambassador we had who went on to accomplish something was...actually, I can't think of any UN ambassador who went on to accomplish anything in politics. If this story is true, I don't understand Haley's thinking.

She has a Southern accent, but doesn’t understand Southerners, particularly as regards our history, culture, traditions, and symbols of heritage. A RINO like Milf Romney.
To: SatinDoll
She certainly doesn’t like South Carolina’s heritage.

She is not a natural born citizen. Her parents were not citizens of the US when she was born.

True, I don’t know. It’s not like people think “Oh I have to have foreign policy experience in order to be a senator.”

Yep, ambassador to the UN is a dead end job. The only thing they do over there these days is debate about global warming. Maybe Haley is just tired of being governor and wants to go wine and dine with the world elite.
To: Helicondelta
Maybe the Trump administration is counting on her to change the culture of the UN so that it does more than divert money under the global warming scam, bash Israel, and “lose” billions of unaccounted-for dollars each year. She has free-trade experience and has had success luring international business to her state. If the UN can be converted into a force for good instead of evil I would be happy. If not, the US can pull out at a later time.
