If Republicans could merge the two approaches, they could continue to win demographically changing swing states.
Two of the most consequential elections of 2016 took place among the same voters in the same state. Pennsylvania effectively put Donald Trump over the top of the 270 electoral-college votes needed to win the presidency, and Pat Toomeys reelection helped secure a Republican majority in the U.S. Senate for at least another two years.
Both of these results were remarkable. Trump succeeded in a state where Bob Dole, George W. Bush (twice), John McCain, and Mitt Romney all failed. Toomey won a second term, despite having more money spent against him than any Senate candidate in U.S. history.

That’s EXACTLY how I felt.
McGinty would have lost to a rusted nail gabbed in the eye on the ballot.
What’s important is that Wolf got his 2 justices that will be onboard for the next 5 years - Thus preventing a conservative overthrow on the state Supreme bench.
That retirement age BS was most underhanded piece of garbage I’ve ever seen. Cuomo and Malloy took notice of how that scam worked.
I despise Toomey because of his gun grab but voted for him anyway, as I saw the bigger picture. SCOTUS etc.
Sorry but this year the new chair did exactly that. Had or tried to get poll watchers in n philly and worked with trump.
i live in Berks Co.
Ditto to everything you said!!
WV?
There’s actually a couple that might shift parties; Trump sincerely has to screw up over and over and over again to prevent that. And simply choosing to follow through with his election promises won’t match that, no matter how much liberals wish it would.
Plenty of potential GOP voters are made to feel very unwelcome in the GOP... in both the establishment faction and in conservative factions. At least in many states and counties that is the way it is.
The newcomer is told to “Kiss my seniority”. The nature of a newcomer is that he doesn’t kiss up.

Slow Joe was Mr Octopi on McGinty like Klintoon on an intern. Held my nose and voted for gun grabber Toomee ..Toomee is toast in 6 years ...
I voted for Toomey (straight R) because I wanted to give Trump the coattails, and because the local Republican Party official in my district was begging Trump supporters to vote for Toomey. I asked torcsone Trump lawn signs and he made me take a Toomey sign too.
Where I live it seemed like without Trump, Toomey wouldn’t have had a chance.
