And it ain’t over til it’s over!
I can’t argue with you there.
I applaud your enthusiasm, and hope that your analysis is correct, and that the unafilliated, the first time voters, the Reagan Democrats will all troop to the polls and avert the disaster that is Hillary.
But that’s what’s left. The past couple of weeks, I had the opportunity to witness first hand the worst (or utter lack of) a GOP GOTV drive, ever. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t fault Trump’s campaign: GOTV is the national party’s job, and what I’ve seen isn’t attributable merely to the NRC’s vaunted incompetence. It’s sabotage, pure and simple.
This is the most important US election since 1860. What’s at stake this time, rather than the mere unity of the Republic, is a choice Americans have never been asked to make (well, at least since 1776). It’s the choice between the rule of law, and the rule of Power.
With Clinton, there will be one law for the powerful, and another for the rest of us, which is a commonplace observation, but think, for a moment, about what that means in practice.
If the law doesn’t mean the same thing for everyone, does it mean anything at all? Is there still a moral obligation to obey any law enacted by the Power that rules, or is there an obligation to resist? And how will that resistance manifest itself when this last, rigged, but semi-free election is over?
I’m going to get up in the morning, and get back to whatever pathetic “GOTV” remains, but this one is looking pretty bleak to me, given all of the conventional metrics. Vote, drive your 90 year old folks to the polls, get your friends there, and hope for the best. But be prepared for what comes after. Chances are, the sun will set for the last time on a nation ruled by law, and rise on one ruled, for the first time, by Power.
Most of the adults in my familyn my immediate family have college degrees, nine all told, and all voting Trump.
You're right- I voted in Central TX on the second day of early voting-Oct 25th, and I saw record lines, but more interesting was the people in the line. The day I voted, I saw very few young people, women, or minorities. Most of the people in line with me were old white men. I really didn't notice the age component of that until my neighbor said that was what he saw, and I realized that he was right. Anyway, I am in one of the most liberal areas of TX, but I have faith that TRUMP is going to make a good showing in my Austin area liberal district.
