I didn't think at the time that Bobby Kennedy had any chance of being the nominee--LBJ had too much influence in the Democratic Party and he was determined not to let RFK be the nominee. I also remember people speculating that Humphrey might have won if the election had taken place a little later because he was rising in the polls. Of course if Wallace had not been in the race Nixon might have won more easily in 1968.

Gore was trailing in 2000 the week before the election, until the weekend media obsession with GWB's 24-year-old DUI arrest, which is thought to have caused millions of evangelicals to refuse to vote for him.

In 2000, it didn’t help Bush at all that the media called FL for Gore before the polls in the Panhandle had closed.

Not True. Wallace was a Democrat and he got the KKK wing of the DEMOCRAT party to vote for him. He split the Democrat vote and carried the Old South. Nixon won because Wallace took away too many Democrat states. Always remember, the Democrat Party has always been and always will be the party of classical, black hating racists.

Even now, their policies of welfare, forced busing, and affirmative action show that they do not see blacks as equals, able to compete with whites on a level field, but as lesser beings, always needing help and unable to provide for themselves. Their policies of birth control and abortion reveal their belief that blacks can't control their sex drive, and take control of their family planning.
