I think part of Trump's campaign strategy is to look beyond winning.

It appears that he believes he can reinvigorate the Republican party in places like California. He certainly can't do any harm.

California isn't going to be fixed in one election cycle, but it will never be fixed if someone doesn't do SOMETHING.
