because a lot of rich white kids either got a deferment or went to college or got out of the draft. .................... or voluntarily joined the Reserve or National Guard to get out of it. In 62’ I found many of my fellow alumni classmates in the Army, some from very wealthy families, even Bobby Vinton and Brandon Dewilde were there. No one complained at being drafted, they did their two years and moved on. For most of us, it was a memorable time. Those who resisted can be compared to those who found outlets during WW II. When life provides you with a gravy train, you tend not to want to get off, when TSHTF let the other guys (volunteers) do the fighting. The only problem is, you eventually run out of the other guys. It would be nice if every country in the world decided to stop wars, but look at their record to date. All the money you have will not stop an enemy from packing you into a 48/8 to a resettlement area. If your country is not worth fighting for or to defend, why are you even here? If by chance we are invaded tomorrow, what role will you play?
I was required by law to register for Selective Service after TWO enlistments in the Army.
“The only problem is, you eventually run out of the other guys. “
This only results from one of two things. Either not enough people believe in the war, or the soldiers are not being paid enough.
I will support a draft as soon if the minute begins every defense contractor, Lockheed exec, congressman and president is put on a military pay scale for the duration.
