I think winning is more important.
No matter the political background of the person, he should pick the candidate most likely to help him win.
That’s my position, and despite criticism, I’m sticking with it.
That SCOTUS appointment is too important, and that means keeping the Senate is too important.
Condi Rice would help with all of that.
I’d worry about having Cruz as VP, at this point.
Cruz is fanatical about feeling entitled to the presidency, and as VP, he’d only be a heartbeat away.
Count me among those who think Trump should choose a
woman as his VP running mate. Preferably one with some
DC chops (Bachman?). I think it COULD neutralize some
of the phony misogyny charges.
With the Scotus pick up for grabs, we cannot afford to lose the Senate. That’s one good reason NOT to pick Ted Cruz for either VP or the Scotus slot.
If we lose the Senate, the new Senate will get seated on 3 January, iirc. The new president, if it is Trump, will not be seated until 20 January.
That would give Obama a little less than 3 weeks to appoint the scalia replacement with a democrat senate. Using the nuclear option, they could do it.
We MUST keep the Senate.
If I were Trump, I would have a sit down with Cruz. Tell him he is on the list for SCOTUS, and he will submit his name after Cruz finishes his term as in congress.
As far as VP no.
As someone who has grown up in the NY area and has been witness to the Trump media empire, it is no surprise that he will do or say anything to win. That doesn’t make him a bad guy but for those people who hang on his every word as gospel, they might be highly disappointed in the end product. If you are from the NY/NJ area you know that Mr Trump is and always has been Dr. Jekyll / Mr. Hyde in his positions and real estate dealings. Rarely do you get at the end what he promised in the beginning.
He might be a good President but be warned, he is very, very unpredictable and manipulative. He does however respect his customers and hopefully as a President that will translate into respect for taxpayers. Is he better than Hillary ??? Definitely at least as far as Supreme Court nominees go and since the new President likely will have an immediate vacancy to fill, that is very important to me. With Trump we “might” get a decent Justice, with Hillary we are screwed.
On other issues however don’t be surprised if Mr Trump doesn’t follow the route many have expected from him. Don’t expect a massive slashing of the government (Congress won’t let him do that) or even sudden wall building on the border (unlikely Congress will let him do that either). Expect him to talk big but then negotiate every issue, every deal (hopefully more to our benefit than less).
I hope I am wrong but as someone who has seen and heard him for over 20 years and who is familiar with some of his local business dealings, I don’t have high expectations for a very Conservative Presidency should he win. The one arrow in the Conservative quiver however is that at least for his first term, Mr Trump would need to court Conservative issues and votes if he wanted a shot at re-election. His second term however he could totally go rogue (especially if he has a democrat Congress veering him leftward).
I am hoping that Mr Trump can manage the office well enough that a more Conservative candidate can get elected when the position becomes vacant again.
My God. He is truly a master deal maker. If Cruz were VP and Trump wins (and he will) it could set up Cruz to follow Trump as President. Of course, Cruz at SCOTUS would be a dream come true, too.
Quote me one verifiable lie, and source it, that Cruz, from of his own mouth, has told.
Agreed. Trump will need all the help he can get in Congress, in particular with the Senate. Best to leave Cruz right where he is.
I do too, but I don't think Rice is necessary, not the best choice for sure, and probably not a good choice for the long term future of the country, given her allegiance to NWO and the Bush family.
I also have a sense that Trump has negative sentiment toward the Bush's that goes beyond Jeb. See, for example, his position that war with Iraq was a grave error. Rice was a big time apologist, and likely involved in coverup of the international interests (Saudi Arabia) that were at least involved with the 9/11 attack on the US. All that is pretty close to Trump's heart, right or wrong.
NO!
ditto!
Well theres no way he will do it but he was smart to say it. Who wants to look over their shoulder everyday for a knife in the back?
Stop lying Trump said he was associated with Oswald he NEVER said anything about being part of the assassination. Does it make everyone including the clerk in the grocery part of the assassination if they had contact with Oswald. Isn’t it time to stop this lie? You just can’t stop it seems
My bet on second choice is Gov. Walker, even though Trump probably prefers KrispyKream personally. But he will find another post for the NJ Gov.
And the Money Trump will need for the General!
(USA Today) Toby Neugebauer, a wealthy energy investor, likes Ted Cruz so much that he deposited $10 million into a super PAC designed to boost the Texas Republicans presidential ambitions.
On Wednesday, Neugebauer was in Donald Trumps camp after the reality TV stars big win in the Indiana primary Tuesday ended the campaigns of Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
Today, I am a Trump supporter, Neugebauer told USA TODAY. I am excited about the voters he turned up.
I think that’s a good place for Cruz. He’s young enough that he could potentially be there for the next 40 years.
Dead SCOTUS went to law school and disagrees with you. But then again, he just died.
So, current court would likely rule in favor of Cruz. You are siding with Ginsburg’s side of the court..just so you know.
