The article is correct on how easy it is to become a delegate, if you are willing to put in the time. I have never been a delegate, because I considered it inappropriate (this is the first year I have not been working for a candidate), but I have been offered that opportunity many times, including by three candidates this year.
Trump has to up his ground game, not just in getting his voters to the polls but also in getting genuine supporters picked as delegates. It is the Trump campaign’s job, and I’m disappointed in their minimal effort. I’ll vote for Trump, but if he doesn’t make it, I’ll blame him. Yes, the establishment tries to stack the deck, but Trump has enough support to beat them even in a rigged game - if he does his part.
It takes work, and Trump’s organization has been solely based on him getting on a plane and going to a rally. Period. He has used his money sparingly for which I do not fault, but he should have been hiring people who know the system on the ground game. Naïveté doesn’t suit Trump well.
