Let’s be honest here. Most of the longtime foreign policy wonks in the GOP are neocons and most have ties with the CFR. Both Cruz and Trump have people associated with that group who are advising them on foreign affairs. That’s just reality.

Abrams, McCarthy and Gaffney are all good picks.

Cruz has diverse advisers which is excellent. He can hear all sides.

This is dumb. Cruz called the CFR a bed of vipers, but is being advised by them. You can't be so dumb that you don't see how that looks.

From Wikipedia ... Andrew C. McCarthy:

He served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. A Republican, he is most notable for leading the 1995 terrorism prosecution against Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman and eleven others. The defendants were convicted of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and planning a series of attacks against New York City landmarks. He also contributed to the prosecutions of terrorists who bombed US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. He resigned from the Justice Department in 2003.

Funny how they left out what he is most known for

One fellow on FR a few hours ago said, "if you don't support Trump you are liberal conservative". Guess they forgot to give Salon the memo.

“He has also used his perch at NR to excoriate the president for, among other things, having any association with “radical America-hating leftists” like Bill Ayers.”

Amazing how the left continues to cover for this terrorist

Cruz has diverse advisers which is excellent. He can hear all sides. And he has not claimed he is his own adviser like another candidate.

Trump and his brain met with the head of the CFR last summer so he is definitely ready to lead.

“Senator Ted Cruz likes to attack President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and “some of the more aggressive Washington neocons” for their support of regime change in the Middle East.”

Kind of odd that Cruz would now line up with these guys

...there was apparently still plenty of work for a guy who the Southern Poverty Law Center has called one of our country's "most notorious Islamophobes."

Sounds like a resume enhancer.

And Drumpf's foreign policy expert is (drumroll :) - himself. /sarc

Why not, he takes stands on all sides of issues depending on the day, hour or minute sometimes.

He's expercising the Sybil doctrine. ;)

Why not? Would have saved us trillions of dollars in the middle east. Bush CFR-Toadies have been spending our money and ruining our reputation abroad for too long.

“Heidi Cruz’ role in all of this was as one of a large panel of readers and her sole identifiable contribution to the project is a one-paragraph response in the final appendix in which she says:

“We must emphasize the imperative that economic investment be led and perpetuated by the private sector. There is no force proven like the market for aligning incentives, sourcing capital, and producing results like financial markets and profit-making businesses. This is simply necessary to sustain a higher living standard for the poorest among us — truly the measure of our success. As such, investment funds and financing mechanisms should be deemed attractive instruments by those committing the capital and should only be developed in conjunction with market participants.”

Your quotation is extremely dishonest. It deletes the first one or two sentences where she endorses the CFR's overall goals and mission. She proposes a free market solution to fixing issues such as Mexico's economy, but begins the paragraph agreeing with the CFR's open borders and NAU goals.

Two takeaways from this story:

The Cleveland Police don't already own plenty of riot equipment (unlike NYC or Chicago one presumes).

Muslims (rather than just the usual lefty suspects) are planning something big.

Because foreign policy is usually less important to the American electorate . . .

Like, dude, Benghazi was so long ago. The American electorate has forgotten all about it. /s
