One minute Trump supporters tell us that Ted Cruz is the odd man out in the Senate, ineffectual, has never accomplished anything except to antagonize his colleagues. The next minute Trump supporters lump Ted Cruz in with the other politicians and Republicans, Rinos, who fail on issue after issue, in this instance the failure to build the wall.
Having a good strong populist will behind you
That is one of the phenomena concerning Donald Trump which should give every conservative pause. Huey Long was a populist, Mussolini was a populist, Hitler sold himself as a populist. Populism is a virus which can lurch out of control.
Whether Trump enjoys a populist wind to his back or not, does not tell me that he will be effectual in any of his policies. Bombast is bombast and performance is something entirely different.
The best you can object is that there is a force that is dangerous.
However, in America’s case, it’s written into the Constitution. Its headliner is not found in any of those other countries. It’s not unreasonable to expect America to actually behave in accordance with it.
