Pretty much sums it up. It is now more about the personality than the issues, which is sad, because that's usually more so a thing on the dem side.

Ah. Got it. When evil companies manufacture stuff abroad, they need to be punished by Trump... Unless it is one of Trump’s companies. Then it is sheer business brilliance.

Braaaains.

Reagan Gets Bill Easing Abortion In California - Jun 14, 1967

June 14, 1967 The California Assembly passed and sent to Governor Reagan a bill easing the state’s abortion law, unchanged in 95 years.
Reagan said the bill was “by no means perfect” and would have to be watched closely to prevent California from becoming an abortion haven. But he said he would sign it despite his doubts about some possible “loopholes.”
“I am fully sympathetic with attempts to liberalize the outdated abortion law now on the law books of California,” the freshman governor said....
The bill...would permit abortions before the 20th week of pregnancy if:

-The prospective mother’s physical or mental health is in danger.

-The pregnancy resulted from incest or forcible rape, or statutory rape in the case of a girl 14 years old or younger.

The old law permits abortions only if the life of the prospective mother is endangered.

We lived in California at the time. The biggest mistake social conservatives made was picketing hospitals, because it drove abortion to outside clinics that became profit centers, and hospitals could no longer control who received abortions.

Everyone says Reagan was the conservative’s conservative. They don’t know who they are supporting. Everyone has feet of clay.

Trump has never signed a bill to liberalize abortion.

I am curious by what measure you regard Trump as successful? His vaunted deal-making and business building skills have so lagged the market that had he invest his inheritance in index funds (or rather chosen an investment strategy to mirror the S&P 500 since index funds are a new invention) he would have twice the net worth he claims to have (and a little under 5 times what some outside observers peg his net worth at).

It is quite possible that had you (or I) inherited as much money as Donald J. Trump did, you (or I) would be much richer than he is. Of course either of us might have done worse, too,. Still, I don’t see anything amazing or successful in underperforming that stock market, even (or perhaps especially) when it is done with lots of deal-making and braggadocio.

The US tried raising tariffs to discourage foreign imports a while ago. It was quite successful at reducing foreign imports. It also caused the Great Depression, killing far more US jobs than it saved. Look up Smoot Hawley. Even Wikipedia acknowledges it's role in the Great depression.

Want another Depression? Elect Trump. I know, I know. Trump will do it "smarter". We'll then have a Great "Smarter" Depression.

Union leaders at an air conditioner factory in Indianapolis threatened with losing 1,400 jobs to Mexico said on Tuesday the plants owner expects to pay Mexican workers $3 an hour compared to an average of more than $20 an hour for the U.S. workers.

When Perot was running for president, he displayed a photo of a Mexican Ford plant on one of his TV appearances. He asked, what's wrong with this picture?

Mr. Hawkeye couldn't find a thing until Perot pointed out the obvious - there were no parking lots. None were needed as the workers, unlike their American counterparts, couldn't afford to buy the product they made and were bused in from the barrios.

First question to Carrier should be "How many A/C units will Mexicans buy?

All these companies who flee overseas to "save money on payroll wages" expect everybody else to keep on earning their high pay so they can buy their products. In reality, they are laying off each others customers.

Reminds me of an old Civil War cartoon where the crew on a steamboat ran out of fuel and were feeding the boilers with wood from the hull to keep the boat moving.

“What drives this disparity and wage need? Let us remember that $3/hour is in fact roughly 50% more than the minimum wage was when I started working. In other words, not a terrible wage. Now it’s less than half of the minimum wage.”

IMO, what they failed to lay-out was the SIZE of govt between those two periods. I’d bet at LEAST a factor of 10x.

While the borrowing and deficit do play a role, it’s the oppression of govt rules/regs/agencies/compliance/OSHA/EPA/etc. that is the true ‘killer’ (especially when you consider in 1950 a SINGLE bread-winner could: buy a home, buy a car, buy a TV, have 2 kids, go on vacation, pay for college and still SAVE for retirement).

You do realize that President Reagan saw this as a mistake. In fact one of his biographers’ said this was “perhaps Reagan’s greatest disappointment in public life.”

“Dump the tax code...”

Yes, yes, yes. It violates numerous other Amendments and makes a mockery of a Free people.

“...got to a flat tax and this all ends!”

Um, no. You are merely arguing to return to where it all started.

Consumption tax. PERIOD. Everyone has skin the game and, best of all, COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY (I’ve spelt it out in better detail in prior posts).
