Maybe because as a historian I see the future of the country at stake. I think Cruz and even Rubio (for the most part) have the right goals, ambitions-—but I think they are incapable of even slightly deviating the nation’s course, let alone turning it around.

Neither has the force of personality, the celebrity status, the ability to go over the heads of the DC political class or the independence from the donors to make substantive change.

And if we don’t do it now, it likely won’t ever get done.

Thank you for your reasoned answer. I hope for a political solution but I fear a catastrophic event will be the only thing to turn the course of events. Have a great weekend.
