I am a fan of HSAs, combined with catastrophic insurance. That is the most personalized and efficient system around, provided one is reasonably healthy.
That said, Medicare is a single payer system and everyone around here squeals like a stuck pig when the politicians talk about cutting entitlements like Medicare. Most FReepers appear to like it. Of course, we cannot afford single payer for everyone, so there’s that.
Now, the VA is socialized medicine, which to me is the worst of all.......by far.

Exactly. Why can’t people be honest about this, I deplore that kind of dishonesty just so Trump or whoever can be attacked in this kind of pathetic way.
HSAs, being able to buy insurance across state lines, and either removing the employer deduction for insurance or extending it to individuals and non-employment groups (churches, the Lions, or just a group of like-minded people), all would help.
IF we need government involvement, it would only be to establish and maintain HSAs for those too poor to fund it themselves.
