You have no idea. My ex-wife and her family are all from Iowa and they are all insane religiously. Being from, and having lived the vast majority of my life in, the east coast did not prepare me for that level of - uh - devotion.
Indeed Iowa is blessed to have a politically active evangelical Christian population.
