This might get ugly if it gets traction in the legislature.

"...ban the transportation, purchase, possession, or transfer of semiautomatic assault weapons in Wisconsin."

The bill, which Subeck said will be introduced in the coming weeks, would ban the sale, transportation or possession of assault weapons except by on-duty law enforcement and military personnel. State Reps. Chris Taylor, D-Madison, Terese Berceau, D-Madison, and Melissa Sargent, D-Madison, joined Subeck in proposing the legislation.

The bill would make owning or selling such a weapon a felony punishable by a fine of up to $10,000 and a maximum of six years in prison, or 11 years if the crime occurred in a school zone.

“I can conceive of no legitimate reason that any citizen should need to own or use a semiautomatic assault weapon,” Subeck said in the statement.

It should be allowedto get traction in the Legislature.

In VA the Dems killed their own chances at a state senate majority by pushing hard for gun control. Nothing motivates gun owners to vote more than Progressives trying to take their guns away.

There are a LOT of hunters/sportsmen and other gun owners in Wisconsin. If it goes far enough it’ll end up with VA, the recalls in Colorado, Gore losing TN and WV in 2000 and other examples of how gun control is a political 3rd rail for Democrats.
