OKLAHOMA CITY (Reuters) - The Oklahoma Republican Party on Tuesday removed a Facebook post that compared people who receive food stamps to wild animals after it set off a social-media storm.
Titled a "lesson in irony," the post from Monday night says the U.S. government is proud that its food stamp program, known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, this year reached 46 million people.
"Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us 'Please Do Not Feed the Animals.' Their stated reason for the policy is because 'The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves,'" it said.
Oklahoma Republican Party Chairman Randy Brogdon said in a Facebook message on Tuesday the post was misinterpreted by many and he offered apologies to those who were offended.
"This post was supposed to be an analogy that compared two situations illustrating the cycle of government dependency in America, not humans as animals," he said....

Stupid tweet. Not all precipitants are black, Mexican, or thugs. We need jobs, not equality.
“Oklahoma Republicans compare food-stamp recipients to animals”
No, they didn’t.
When people try to twist things like this, the only reasonable response is, ESAD.
The don’t like it because it’s right on target...they know it is true.
Oklahoma Republicans also use metaphors and similes! Burn them!!! BUUUUURN!
Yes- while liberal headline writers might not realize it, there’s a difference between comparing welfare recipients to animals and comparing the effects of handouts on both humans and animals.
Would you pass the jar of face-palm, please?
They’re out. It’s on back order.
>> beneficiaries are animals
What’s the fuss? It’s natural to behave like an animal... that’s what the homosexuals say.
Oh please. That analogy has been around as long as I can remember. You just have to be careful these days.
hand outs are bad for everyone rich and poor....right now the biggest problem this country has is that everyone is thinks the handout they are getting is all right whether it is a subsides or the industry they are involved in or it is a free phone for someone on welfare another handout. eventually these handouts are going to destroy this country.
Yet the pubbies caved immediately instead of defending their post by pointing out that it had to do with dependence on gov’t handouts.
Instead they meekly crumble under a few critical comments.
Who will stand up to the morons?
I don’t get people apologizing for provocative statements. THEY SAID NOTHING WRONG. Make your statements and own them! If a stupid reporter (but I repeat myself) misconstrues you, it is now possible to call them out by name. Nail them on Twitter.
Have you ever heard the phrase “bread and circuses?”
Well, Rome’s failure was caused by the fact that their government reached the point that the phrase perfectly describes the root cause of the failure of Rome.
It now describes to a “T” why our form of government is to the point of failure.
Look up the phrase and learn some history.
Which reminds me, how’s Ohio State’s football recruiting going this year?

(The average US citizens knows 10x more about the NFL, than who is his school board member, county commissioner, or state legislator.)
That wasn’t comparing them to animals. Are people really that stupid?
They voted leftist, so yes, they are that stupid.
It’s a fair comparison. What we’re really talking about is learned dependency, and that applies to both people and animals.
