Very good points.
My take on the various factions:

• The GOP elite which are not Conservative but merely concerned with keeping their power, status and ability to make deals to fatten their wallets.
  Remember Mississippi for an example not in the article.

• The Conservatives that wish to maintain our God given and Constitutional rights.

• The Libertarians that that wish to maintain our Constitutional rights.

• The Tea Partiers made up of partly Social and Constitutional Conservatives and Constitutional Libertarians.

The GOP elite has clearly declared their intentions to not only defeat the other factions which are the majority of the probable Republican voters but also destroy them.
