That's exactly what he said. You should read before posting.
Cruz is railing against the federal overrule of laws and state constitutions on the subject of defining marriage. The US constitution clearly allows the states OR the people define marriage, but the subject of debate is specifically federal overrule of state laws.
In reality, the church (any and all) that acts as an agent of the state in performing the civil part of the arrangement (as in, signing off the legal pronunciation of marriage) erred originally - and now they face the idea that their legal assistance may cause direct conflict with their opposition to faux unions of same-sex individuals.
No government can solemnize the matrimonial bonds described in the Bible. They can recognize the social contract of civil unions, which have long been called “marriage” across the spectrum - but only as applied to male/female pairings.
Debating whether the social contract should exist is another matter entirely, of course. :)
Does Ted Cruz really hate gay people????? This pictures proves that he doesnt at all. In fact, this is his best friend and yes he is gay. So no Ted does not hate gays.
napscoordinator, we know that you are supporting Scott Walker. But, what is in your mind to spread a rumor about Ted Cruz's best friend? Ted Cruz attended Patton's wedding in Jamaica. His wife is Lisa Hanna. Ted Cruz is also a godfather to their son.
It’s like saying an anti-rape advocate is against people who want to have sex.
It’s the way some Walkerites play the game. Might as well get used to it, it’ll get worse before the RNC.
Did I not put that in my post that Ted Cruz does not hate fags? Did I not post a picture that proves it when he is sitting next to his best friend in college and today who is gay? Are you so offended by a person who supports Walker sticking up for Ted Cruz? You will need me if Ted becomes the nominee so I would not be so quick to question me.
I cant wait to see him in the debates.
If he makes them. They are only allowing 10 candidates so who knows who will make the cut.
Isara, thank you very much for finding the article at the Jamaica Observer dated 4/8/2015 (there's a news source we don't see every day). Not only does it refute the rumor about David Panton's sexual orientation, but it was wonderful background information on this close friend and college debate partner for Ted Cruz and the close friendship that exists to this day between the Cruz family and the Panton family.
It's nice that college friends remember Ted from days past in contrast to the poseur currently occupying the Oval Office.
Hey Naps, I see, regrettably, that my post is open to a reasonable interpretation, opposite to what I intended. What I see as delusional is that Jeb Bush and the Rep. establishment think that can run Jeb in the face of the abysmal record of his family. Can’t be done.
I also see you got into it with 2nd and Isara. I can’t help but feel that part of your opposition to Ted Cruz is that you’ve had at it with some of his supporters. I hope you guys can call a truce. -:)
Just posted an article about Ted Cruz speaking to pastors on religious liberty; might interest you.
I’m sure the MSM will do their best to eliminate him. I only hope it doesn’t happen.
LOL, what? I POSTED "exactly" what he said, which was "The constitution gives marriage to elected state legislatures." He was referencing the 10th Amendment, and he left out the People. That's why I replied:
"Uh no, Ted. The Constitution leaves subjects it does not directly address (like marriage) to the States, OR THE PEOPLE."
YOU should read before posting!
Well said.
That's how Interpreted it and that's how I responded.
Good, because that's what I meant. Because I was, in fact, "schooling Cruz" and he did leave something out - THE PEOPLE.
I don't like it when politicians leave out the People. I think it should be pointed out by the People when they are left out.
I think Cruz is the best in the field, but he's still a politician. He voted, for example, for Obama's fast track trade agreement bill. America is based on the fundamental idea that politicians are not to be trusted, and the People are to point out when they are out of line.
Concerning marriage, Cruz invoked the State aspect of the 10th Amendment, but deliberately left out the People aspect. That's because he's still supporting the idea that government validates marriage. State government versus federal government, yes, but still government. And in that, I think he's wrong. I think this entire marriage problem would vanish if the government was only able to acknowledge a civil union, and MARRIAGE was left to the specific church which solemnized it.
And that's not a radical idea - that's how it was for centuries. We need not go back to it, and Cruz is wrong to leave it out as an option.
IMHO
