BOCA RATON, Fla. Republican presidential primaries have for decades been orderly affairs, with any momentary drama mitigated by the expectation that the party would inevitably nominate its tested, often graying front-runner.
But as the 2016 White House campaign effectively began in the last week, it became apparent that this race might be different: a fluid contest, verging on chaotic, that will showcase the partys deep bench of talent but also highlight its ideological and generational divisions.
As Democrats signal that they are ready to rally behind Hillary Rodham Clinton before their primary season even begins, allowing them to focus their fund-raising and firepower mostly on the general election, the Republicans appear destined for a free-for-all.
I can think of about 16 potential candidates, said Haley Barbour, the former governor of Mississippi and a veteran of Republican presidential politics dating to 1968. Almost every one of them have a starting point. But there is no true front-runner.(continued)

One thing that appears over, regardless of rino or conservative, this time a lot of big boys will be battling it out.
This won’t be a replay of the two election cycles that Romney destroyed by having so much money and fund raising and manpower dominance that only third tier people ran against him (Perry, while of course not literally third tier, in effect was for 2012, he was only introducing himself and doing it late).
The debates are going to be a circus. I don’t even know how they’re going to coordinate that.
This is not important and is just personal groaning, but internally I dread this primary, because while if we can get in Cruz it will be easy for me, if it doesn’t turn out that way, then I will have to probably go back to what we always end up doing, the lesser of two evils thing.
In 2012 I rejected Romney as a bridge too far for me, but this time I will probably be back to the old Dole type voting, lesser of two evils, holding your nose, or whatever words to describe the typical election, God let’s hope it is Cruz instead.
“The nomination season is likely to be effectively underway at that point, which gives pause to some in the party who fear a replay of the long and contentious battle in 2012.
’You might argue it was more divisive than it needed to be,’ Mr. Friess said, adding that this time, ‘the donors are not going to let that happen.’
Well that just warms my heart. It’s Christie or Bush.
we need a National TEA Party Convention before the end of 2015 to get behind one conservative candidate, probably Ted Cruz.
To me this is healthy. Having a deep field means we have a lot of people who would be viable, thanks to the Republican domination of governorships and Congress. On the other hand, having Hillary being the only viable democrat candidate is not healthy at all for the Democrat party. Who are the other Democrat stars? Pelosi? Reid? Sandra Fluke? Oh, right. Bwahahahahaha.
I still think the Republican primary voters are so dumb that they will call for a third Bush.
The Republican division is lopsided and will ensure the RNC candidate the nomination. Many conservatives will run and knock each other out in the early pimaries while the RNC- Bush or Romney, possibly Christie, stays low contributing mostly attack ads against the perceived conservative front runner in each primary, then enter in force in the later primaries after all the conservatives are smeared and most have folded. The mcdole candidate will then win the later primaries and the Nomination but then take a fall for the election. This rut has become deep with wear. Most of the money will back the mcdole and attack the conservatives.
There is no longer any lesser of two evils. There is only one evil with a primary face and a subordinate face.
“There is no longer any lesser of two evils. There is only one evil with a primary face and a subordinate face.”
worth repeating
The race will come down to one of the GOPe candidates (someone like Kasich, Walker, Bush, or Christie) and Ted Cruz. And you can be assured the GOPe will do everything in their power to sabotage Ted.
That was the line that gave me the heaves. Tells me that Jebby is going to be their paid shill, and that we’re looking at President Hillary Clinton, with Bubba as First Gentleman. *barf*
At that point, we begin praying for the continued health of Justices Scalia and Thomas. If we lose either of them, we lose any decent check on Democrat power in D.C. We also lose a vital chance to replace old buzzard Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Jeb isn’t conservative - *and he does NOTHING to help us win*. He doesn’t even change the map, save for maybe.. maaaaaaybe moving Florida back into the Republican column.
Jeb does nothing to the Blue Wall from 2004: 246EVs.
NM is gone to the illegals: 251EVs.
VA couldn’t even go red in a year like this, and the suburbs of D.C. are taking over year after year: 264EVs.
And NV will be frauded by Reid’s re-election effort, with help from Obama’s newly-minted illegals: 270EVs.
That’s all that an opponent of Jeb needs. I could at least somewhat understand nominating a suboptimal candidate if he changed the map, disrupting the Democrats’ base of states - but Jeb does nothing!
Last time around, I skipped giving money to the presidential nominee and supported decent senatorial nominees. This time, if they go with another crappy “moderate” candidate, the tap gets shut-off totally. Why invest in the Senate if a Democrat president is there stacking the judiciary and issuing law via edict while the GOP does nothing?
Depressing reading for a Sunday morning. Damn.
I can see Karl Rove with his eraser board on election night predicting the loser. I think if the GOP steps aside and allows zippy to run buckshot over the country and they do as they have always done NOTHING! I see a different outcome for our feckless and balless coming to the run up of 2016
