The Congressional Black Caucus took to the House floor Monday night to condemn the shooting of Michael Brown by a police officer in Ferguson, Mo. last month.
Monday was the first legislative sessions since Brown, an African American teenager, was shot and killed by a white police officer on August 9.
Rep. Lacy Clay (D-Mo.), who represents Ferguson, said that deaths like Browns had become too common. "This much cannot be disputed: Across America today, we have too many Michael Browns. We have too many unarmed black men who interact with police and wind up dead," Clay said.
"The resolution of that problem will only come through a painful, honest national discussion about race and our inability to address these tragic disparities," Clay added.
Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.), who represents the district where black teenager Trayvon Martin was shot in 2012 in an alleged case of racial profiling, said both deaths highlighted longstanding tensions.
"There is so much friction between police and black boys. That friction has been there for generations, almost since slavery," Wilson said.
Congressional Black Caucus Chairwoman Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio) said the militarization of police forces seen in Ferguson exacerbated the conflict between officers and protesters.
"This excessive use of force often provokes animosity instead of building the cooperation needed to combat violence," Fudge said.
The floor speeches from the Congressional Black Caucus came a day before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee holds a hearing on the Ferguson shooting. The hearing will be chaired by Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill (D).
Clay pledged to bring justice to Brown's case.
"I made a promise to Michael Brown's mother that we would focus every possible federal resource on this case in an effort to bring justice for her son's death," Clay said.

I’m shocked, shocked I say! Oh and could you please tell me when they are going to go on the floor to condemn the murder and beatings of Whites and others by Black thugs?
“We have too many Michael Browns”
You got that right
discussing race won't resolve anything.
I hope the police stop protecting them.
“black men who interact with police”
When he says “interact,” he means “brawl”?
“Interact”. That’s pretty funny. Like it’s a job fair and the cop is educating homies on careers with the Po Po; e.g.
“If some dog is disrespectin’ you, why—just blow him away!”
Not that the CBC is willing to discuss it.
The way the headline reads, it sounds like the CBC is condemning someone named Ferguson who shot someone/something on the House floor.
Opportunists all of them. They created this black dependency and now they blame it on others. Total pigs.
As soon as the Caucasian Caucus chimes in, I’ll listen to both sides. Till then, these blacks are racists.
Did they condemn the racist violent attacks by the black thugs in Memphis on the whites that were actually working?
Did they condemn the racist violent attack by the black thugs in Springfield, MO on the young white man and woman?
If not, they can all choke on their hypocrisy.
HOW about a rational, objective discussion based on a full and detailed account of the facts permeating and surrounding this incident?
I won’t mock Fredericka’s sequined cowgirl (?) hat, but I will say, from the look of her eyebrows, if she gets another face-lift she’ll have a goatee.
She’s got more chins than a Chinese phone book.

Cops still endorse democrats and this won’t change it.
That’s just retaliation for me condemning the black caucus. Weird huh?
A. The Black Crook Caucus hasn't been convicted yet.
Can’t wait for the aircraft carrier “USS Gentle Giant” to be launched. His mother can christen the carrier with Swisher Sweets and one of the bottles of booze left at his curbside memorial.
Yes, I was kind of wondering what the Congressional White Caucus has to say on the subject. Otherwise, F the CBC.
