That's how I see it as well. The original meaning of the word marriage - a special relationship between a man and women - two beings who are so unlike each other that they can almost be considered two different species - but in spite of this something amazing happens... (cue music here)

The man/ woman aspect of marriage is an integral part of the meaning of the word. If the word 'marriage' is redefined to be a domestic partnership between any two (3, 4, 5, ...) people, then the original meaning is gone and there will no longer be any word in the English language that refers to this very special relationship between man and woman that is arguably the basis for the civilized world.
