Lately, I had been thinking about writing a piece asking the question of whether Senator Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) is more like the late Sen. Jesse Helms (R-N.C.) or if he is more like President Ronald Reagan. For those of you who dont remember or who werent born yet the irascible Helms served in the Senate from 1973-2003. He was well known for his independent streak, and he was certainly not shy about ignoring the will of Senate leaders when he did not see things their way. Some of his stubborn pursuits and lonely battles in the Senate are legendary.
Anyway, as I was thinking about this comparison, I thought it would be a good idea to pose the question to a few former and current senators, staffers and others who worked with or knew all three men. Lets just say people tend to see Sen. Cruz as something of an original. The reaction I got surprised me. To the person, the very idea that I would compare Sen. Cruz to either Sen. Helms or President Reagan drew an angry blast. The depth of the hostility toward Cruz surprised me. Every Republican I spoke with reminded me that Sen .Helms while at times obstinate was always gracious and above board. They talked about how Helms was a great gentlemen, colleague and a candid advocate who would never blindside his colleagues or let disagreements become personal. All this was said about Sen. Helms in a way that suggested these qualities were in contrast to their views of Sen. Cruz....

Burn Baby Burn....Because Ted will still be there long after they’re gone.
If the Washington Compost says it, they must be afraid. Go Ted go.
Another Romney surrogate is sent out to destroy
a conservative.
Does the RAT Romney EVER care about America?
He has a lot of Palin in him, he wants to influence politics and lead others to help him make changes. He doesn’t just want to fight and stand strong, he wants political victory.
The GOPe has long burned its bridge with me. Go Ted.
And he’ll get the Hispanic AND the White vote. The Democrats have screwed themselves royally with the illegal immigration and don’t have a clue yet. Their plan is hoping to backfire so bad. I can’t wait to see the look on their faces come election day...

Ted Cruz should burn down the following “bridges:”
* Republican Cave-In Bridge;
* Republican Bi-Partisam Bridge;
* Republican Grand Bargain Bridge;
* Republican Deal Bridge;
* Republican Kick-the-Can-down-the=Road Bridge;
* Republican Budget Extension Bridge;
* Republican Fear-of-control-of-the-Purse Bridge;
* Republican Fear of Impeaching Democrats Bridge.
Or in other words, of the author of this hit piece on Cruz is a GOP-E hatchetman.
This citizen says Thank You Ted! No more polite political discourse, or worse - high theatre for the masses, with all the key players meeting for drinks and dinner at the end of the day.
It is our freedom that is at stake here, and it would seem that Sen. Cruz gets it.
Dear Lord, keep watch over this man, and share Your strength with him.

We don’t need no water.
Not to me. I say nuke them instead.....
I was going to say this writer was a mouthpiece for the rinos. You gave proof of that, thanks. You should see the vicious comments at the post. I think leftist groups pay people to write nasty things, but middle very middle school. No substance. It’s like a wall they build around to keep true discussion out.
Slime bucket corrupt Barbourite....I don’t care what he thinks.
Good for Ted. I stand with Ted
Busy, productive people have better things to do. Having said that, I do have an account there, but only comment maybe twice a month.
RINO, NWO, Corporatist GOP consultant. figures.
Well. It depends. If he wants to run for POTUS, it absolutely matters. You can not win the nomination without the Party machine. If they turn against Ted, he may win a Primary here and there but that will be it. How do you think we got Romney. I certainly don’t think he needs to go along to get along, but you have to decide if you want to isolate yourself. Maybe you do. But, yes ... it matters.
