If, by some hideous and monstrous twist of fate, Mitt Romney ends up as the 2016 GOP standard bearer, you’ll be able to hear my Olympian laughter all the way across the Atlantic.

I can think of nothing more blatantly idiotic.

Why do these people keep insisting on beating a dead horse?

If, by some hideous and monstrous twist of fate, Mitt Romney ends up as the 2016 GOP standard bearer ...

As presently configured for primary run-offs, that is exactly what is most likely to happen, or a similarly collectivist-leftist "Republican" ala Jeb or Christie. No "twist of fate" about it. Two short years away from now it will be the same unless by some incredible and terrific twist of fate, the GOP voters in liberal Northeast states turn about-face to embrace the Limited Government Cruz Palin approach OR primary protocols are drastically overhauled. Like either are going to happen in 24 months.

If as is likely transpires in 2016, the GOP puts forth a collectivist liberal as its standard bearer, public sentiment will be roiling for an independent "third" party -- in reality a SECOND party -- alternative. Time will be ripe.
