Even though they are both “from” Florida, what is to stop Jeb from returning to Texas? It worked for Cheney when he suddenly returned to Wyoming just in time for 2000.

The scenario being discussed is Jeb picking Rubio. The presidential candidate wouldn’t change his home state. It would be the prospective Veep candidate who’d have to change residence. As far as I’ve ever heard/read, Rubio has been a Floridian his whole life.

Cheney was late to TX, and only moved there after leaving Washington to head up Halliburton that was based in TX. For most of his life Cheney was a legal resident of WY, that he’d represented as the state’s only Representative. His changing his residency back to WY wasn’t in the same category as it would be for Rubio. What state could he claim? VA or MD, wherever he lives while serving FL in the Senate?
